Went to a local gun shop on an ammo hunt. They had two types of Swiss 7.5x55: $6.99 for 10-round box of GP-11 surplus and $9.99 for 20-round box of Wolf Gold :D I jumped on the Wolf -- 50 cents/round seems pretty good lately. Unfortunately they only had two boxes. :(

Should I have jumped on the GP-11 also or should I be content with the Wolf? Has anybody else had luck finding Swiss lately?

ALSO, at another shop, I grabbed some 7.62x54r for $3.50/20-round box (17.5 cents/round). Got 16 boxes and the wooden chest they were sitting in (bonus!). It's Czech silver tip, liteball, 147 gr. Should I sell some plasma or pimp myself out to buy more, or is that about the average price right now?

I dont know about the swiss, but the czech ammo seems a little high, surplus ammo can be gotten much cheaper over the internet. Actually at my local gunshop they were selling albanian 440rd 7.62X54r for 50 bucks, so I picked one up.

You did good on the Swiss. The GP11 is usually $4/10, but nobody has it in stock right now. Wolf is usually $13 a box or more, and is reloadable (if you don't reload, sell the brass and recoup a couple bucks).

I don't know much about the 7.62x54R, but I think it's about $10/100 at the cheapest.

54r can be had for about 10 cents a round. here in MA iv paid

12 cents/round for 440 rounds of Hungarian light ball (not the ones w/ stippers)
and
14 cents/round for 440 rounds of Hungarian Heavy ball

those are somewhat high prices for common 54r. the light ball i got the stores "case discount" the heavy ball i dont believe i did.

Yeah I might have paid a bit more than the norm for the 54r, but the same shop that had the cheap Wolf Swiss -- their 54r was $3.99/20 rounds and they had a 440-round tin of Albanian they wanted almost $80  Ordering over the internet, the cost of the ammo plus shipping/handling charges vs. the local gun shop price may even themselves out. Plus if I like a local shop, I will gladly pay a (slight) bit more to keep them in bidness. Building a decent relationship with the local guys may pay off at some point, especially if Hitlery gets elected.

80 for 440 is way too much for 54r. thats the normal price for 880 round crates. albanian isnt even a big deal.

even ordering off the internet and paying shipping if you can find anything local wont run you 80$ for 54r

see no one will ship ammo to MA so im for the most part forced to go through a gunshop and because if that iv accepted that i will have to pay slightly more than internet cost. but 80 is too much

I just ordered a bunch of 7.62x54R from Century, Hungarian light ball. It was $99.48 for a case of 1200 rounds. Czech silvertip is $43.87 for 440 rounds. Shipping is a flat $12.95, or free over $500. If you really need 6000 rounds, you can get the Hungarian stuff for just over 8 cents a round delivered. Say what you want about Century, but you can get some great deals on ammo.

Another fun round they have is the Czech super light training round. The bullet reminds me of an M1 carbine bullet, but it weighs about 60 grains and is a bi-metal jacketed hollow bullet. I've been wanting to set up the chronograph to see how fast it's going. It has to be pretty high velocity. They are cheap and reasonably accurate out to 100 yards or so. The biggest reason I like them is the lack of recoil. I've had problems with my back and neck and if I shoot a couple boxes of full power rounds I really regret it the next day.
