I was wondering what the difference between the .270 win and the .270 wsm.

Thanks for your help in advance.

The .270WSM is the same caliber, .270, but a different cartridge altogether. The .270WSM shoots the same caliber bullets a bit faster than the .270. They are not interchangable.

out of all the wsm carts, generally speaking most dudes will agree; the 270 wsm, makes up the most ground, carrying much more speed and energy downrange, over it's origional case. As compared to the other rounds made into wsm's. Too bad bullet mfgr's don't do a lot of 6.8 bullets in a lot of weights or vld styles; that would be one heck of a handloader cart.
Allthough last year or 2 years ago, a dude won a long distance shoot, in England, and I think he shot a 3.5 inch group at 1000 yds which i believe was a world record, with a homemade rig; he was shooting a rifle that chambered a 300 wsm cartridge, but it was necked down to 7mm. I think it was called a 300/7 wsm.

Geometry and physics tell us, that shorter fatter cases, are much more efficient, faster, and hotter burning, while burning up more powder before it gets into the neck and throat, than longer and skinnier cases. That is why the wsm's do a good job for speed, and even the lowly ak case, gets a fair amount of attention by wildcatters, looking for low pressure yet well burning cases, and with 6mm to 6.5mm type bullets, you can get some nice speed out of them, too.
