I've shot a bunch of Independence .45acp 230gr FMJ and it was fine. The boxes I had were stamped as having come from Federal Cartridge Co.
According to the owner of the store I bought it at (he's also the gunsmith), it is made by CCI for Federal. It's an odd arrangement, but bear in mind that both CCI and Federal are owned by the same parent company - ATK, Inc. It is new, factory made ammo, manufactured in the USA. Some time ago (a couple of years at least, or so I gather) the Independence brand was imported by CCI (although I don't remember from where), and either the parent, ATK, or one of their ammunition manufacturing subsidiaries must have bought up the brand trademark.
P.S. Along with CCI and Federal, ATK also owns Speer ammo. Co.
