I ordered 2k of 5.7x28 SS197 from a company last week. They shipped it UPS ground and I received it today. The box had a hole in the top corner, about a 2" circle. You could easily hear loose rounds rattling around inside.

After taking several pics of the box I opened it. The boxes, FNH, were packed loose in the shipping box. No peanuts, no newspaper, no padding or anything else to keep the boxes from shifting all over the place. It was fairly well taped.

I pulled the boxes out of the shipping box. 30 were intact, 5 were slightly damaged and 5 were totally broken apart. I counted up the loose rounds and was 72 short.

I called the company, Sportsmansguide, to let them know about the problem. After talking to the CS rep., he told me that they couldn't ship me 72 rounds but he figured up what they were worth and refunded me that amount.

Between the poor packaging and the UPS guerrillas handling the box there is now a trail of loose rounds running around the country.

That's BS that they could not ship 72 rounds. he would just rather refund some money. Years ago I had a problem with some surplus .308 I bought from them ($79 for 500. I miss those days) It took them two tries, but they made it right.

Aggravating I am sure, but at least you got most of it. If I was buying to put back intact for a rainy day, I would be much more upset. If you will be shooting it, it's not so bad.

I bought 600 rounds some time back. 500 to put back, and 100 to play with and get some factory velocities & check accuracy so I would know what to expect from my reloads.

Bought it from Ammunition to Go. I have no idea who has it in stock these days.

Of course they could physically ship them, but why bother? Reimbursement for the missing ammo is fair since that is apparently what was in dispute.

MikeS, did you pay the extra $1 for insurance? If so, I would get reimbursed for all the damaged ammo and not just the 72 rounds. Those other 5 boxes may have rounds with setback that you probably don't want to fire.

Didn't say it wasn't, just calling BS on the reason the fellow gave. ;)

I used to work for UPS loading trucks and boxes get thrown/smashed/anythingyoucanthinkof in order to build a wall.

I hadn't even thought of that. I'll measure them and find out if I have a problem.

Birdmang- how often were you finding live rounds or even lead bullets at work? Thats almost better than finding a stray wheel weight to smelt into gold... er, bullets!
