Ammo Stash question

I'm wanting to get a stash going. I would like:

1000 9mm
1000 45
1000 7.62x39
1000 7.62x51
1000 30-06

Most of this ammo would be used in surplus rifles.

The question is: Would it be better to by the components and load milspec ammo or just buy milsurp. I'm thinking that 9mm and x39 wouldn't be worth reloading not sure on the others.
 
I think you can buy all that mil-surp ammo much cheaper than you can make it yourself. At least the first batch or two.

After that, assuming you can reuse the brass, reloading will be cheaper in the long run.

Someone once said that loading your own ammo won't save you money, but it will allow you to shoot more for the same price.
 
dont kno about you guys but if im stashing it i want new milspec ammo
it will keep better due to the fact that both primers and case necks are sealed.i pack mine in us 30cal cans it can be moved very quick and the cans are waterproof.

if the humidity is over 30% or so when you pack it toss some silicon desicant in the can to prevent moisture spoilage. happy stashing :)

Don't know about you, but all that 30's and 40's WWII-surplus ammo I have been shooting off lately has kept pretty good over the past 70 years. Stick them in cans and don't worry.

I'd buy surplus. I get '06 for $4/box from CMP. It was going to cost me a bit more to make it, and since I am just fun shooting, there was really no need for me to spend my time to make something that would end up costing me more.

This holds much more true when you get to things like the 7.62x39, 7.62x54, 8mm Mauser, etc. Things that are still around in cases. If I can buy 1400 rds of 8mm for $80, why would I reload for it?

Anyway, JMHO.
 
I shoot too much to be able to create a stash. Only in the winter, when I reload does the ammo start to build.

Reloading for me is more for accuracy and consistency than to save money.
