This isn't a poll about who is going to win, let's don't go there as the Mods will just shut us down.

This is a poll about ammo and when to buy - just like buying stocks. What do you think is the best gamble? This is of course assuming you already have some amount of ammo reserves. If you only have one magazine full, go to the store.

Not doing that again! Got into reloading and have stocked up a crapload of supplies. When I need it I make it.

There's really no downside to stocking up on all the ammo you can afford.
The price will never be cheaper than it is today and it's a good bet it will be higher.

I have never been sorry I stretched the budget at times to buy ammo. That's why I'm still shooting $4.38 a box 9mm WWB, $4.00 a box 30.06 and $54 a 1,000 case 7.62x39 ammo.

Then there's stocking up on reloading components.

I predict lower prices after November, but there are no guarantees. Always buy when a good deal comes along. The only way to know that is to watch ammo/component prices/sales.

Nope, didnt buy into the last panic and wont particpate in this one. I got enough,(understement) and can make more.

I voted "buy now" however not for political reasons. Strictly for the following reasons:
- supply and demand - aka scared peeps
- commodity prices & "hidden" inflation (ya know...QE1, 2, 3? and all that...)
- 2012 - we're all gonna die.........

I believe politics DO HAVE a impact on prices. Look at the current sales figures for firearms in Colorado. As I recall a few years ago, a number of ammunition vendors raised prices to the point of gouging just after the election. I realize that raw materials have a strong impact, but fear in the eyes of the consumer help to push sales.

Given the hubub some people have been putting out there regarding Obama, his second term, not worrying about being re-elected, executive orders, etc...and now the ____ in Colorado, I forsee availability decreasing and prices increasing from here through at least next year. Even if no legislation passes (and I don't think it will), things will change...just like 4 years ago.

Judging by the poll results so for, Im sensing another panic buy driving up the price more than anything else.

LOL, you know you cant export ammo without a licence. Time to get into reloading my friend.

Well prices go up on raw materials at the same time other countries (China is one example) are competing for those same materials (copper for electrical wires/water pipes) etc. And you think that prices will go down for any reason at all?? Good luck with that.:banghead: I always try to buy what I can with the thought of staying 2 years ahead of use to smooth out the bumps. Also the stuff I already own will NEVER cost me more than the purchase price at that time.:D Not panic buying here but taking advantage of my relative economic stability in my life I have as of today.

Nothing to do with shortages due to hoarding etc IMHO.

Given what happened in Colorado and the subsequent firearms debate, we should expect to see higher prices. Just like the brady bunch exploited the tragedy in Colorado, people from the industry will capitalize on the newly sparked debate. Not to mention the media (even the beloved (bill o'reilly) is swaying opinions on the issue. I think no matter what the outcome of the election, we have a serious fight coming to protect our rights. I don't trust either of the two sleaze bags running for office to do it for me.

I will wait until after Christmas to restock, I think there is enough of the defensive ammo right now. Wholesale prices rose sharply this week

It it actually happens, we will just have to wait for it to die down and get back to normal again to buy ammo or components. I hope we all learned the importance of having a reasonable stock laid up, and can wait it out, if it actually happens again.

Sadly all the new firearms owners will not have had the bitter taste of the last election run experience for reference. They will be the ones to fuel the buying this time IMHO. Experience is a great teacher but you have to pay attention and ask others their previous observations with an open mind if you want to learn/profit from them.

I'm not a reloader, for time reasons.

I've been stocking up on 9mm for a bit, because I only see prices going one direction. I don't see any reason why the ammo companies would reduce prices, given that they're selling like crazy, as is.

The number one thing that keeps me from the range is the lack of funds to buy ammo.

There was a time when that was true for me, but not anymore.
Make no mistake, I have no more money than I used to, but have done some things to make it more cost effective.
We started handloading to save $ on ammo. Three of us went in together on equipment and often do on components as well. Our most recent endevour has been casting, which is just as addictive as handloading BTW. Now I'm shooting a lot more for very little money. Just as an example, I can load 1,000 .45 Colt rounds for right around the $75 mark. That's dirt cheap any way you look at it. So, if you don't already handload, try and find a couple of close friends or family members and spread the cost around a little. It's both fun and productive.

So as for the OP's question, no I'm not worried about a thing. Not for several years anyway and that's assuming we don't buy anything else, which of course we will.

Happy shooting.

Come on now. If this thread weren't really about politics, then why does it have to be November? Why not September? or February?
For me, I buy more and more, when I can, since there's no such thing as "enough" ammo. Stocking up is always a good thing.
