I am relatively new to the gun owner community although I have years of experience with them. After a couple months of research and personal testing, I got a Ruger P345 decocker. Wondering if anybody has heard anything about the new Hornady TAP rounds? I already know about Hydrashocks. Also, why are the Taurus PT24/7's being discontinued? That was my first choice, but I can't find it in a .45 anywhere.

I have a box of TAP sitting next to me, its good stuff. I will caution you, that you need to test defensive ammo in your gun. There is a test some people follow here, I think Preacherman has posted it before.

The idea is that you fire 200 rounds of the defense ammo you pick and it must run flawless. Then you can trust it for carry. It can get expensive with 20 rounds of top quality ammo costing ya 12 or 13 bucks, but its worth it I would think.

As far as practice, a lot of people (myself included) swear by the "whitebox" winchester ammo. Sling on the net for it is WWB. Good shooting for trigger time.

And welcome to The High Road!

The 24/7 has not been discontinued, unless that happened in the last two weeks or so. It has been updated, so the original models are no longer, but replaced by a newer version. In fact, Taurus is going to produce a Titanium slide version :D and a longslide version.

There are tons of excellent self defense loads for the .45 ACP. Most any good, "premium" JHP or expanding bullet touted for that purpose, and many "economy" JHP loads are very, very good.

Happy to hear that I will still be able to get a 24/7, even if it won't make it to CA till 07(hopefully sooner), the new .45XD's won't even be here until the end of this year, so I'm told by the local shops. It suck to have hobbies in CA.

The best commercial .45 ACP rounds I've fired were Black Hills 230 JHP +P rounds. Very accurate, very mean.
