The first gun I bought was an AMT .40 S&W. I still have it and would really like to use it (even though it is a POS). I don't mind the 16lb trigger pull, it feeds fine and fires without a problem.

But, it hurts like hell to shoot it. Is there any ammo made in .40 S&W that would help tame this gun? Maybe a lighter bullet with less powder in the cartridge could tame this thing.

After 20 rounds my hands hurt so bad I think about getting rid of the thing.

I have also though about shooting gloves or putting a rubber grip around the handle.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'll admit that my .40S&W experience is limited to a compact CZ, however, the recoil felt a lot snappier/sharper than a 9mm or .45 ACP.

If your AMT .40 is like my AMT DAO Back-up .45, it won't like anything but full-power loads. Even my little AMT SA Back-up .380 acts up with anything less than all-up rounds, preferring Cor-Bons.

AMTs are PAIN! Get used to it!

(BTW, I've got half an ammo can of .380 reloads 'cause I only have one .380, and it won't eat 'em. Anyone have a suggestion for a .380 that might digest this stuff?)

bursar eats anything as does my p3at. 2.0 to a full charge of 2.8 bullseye/ 100 gr LRN
OMC 380 will not function proper below 2.6. and yes---it hurtz.

You can try the Federal Personal Defense Low Recoil Hollow points. Or the Cor-bon DPX rounds, as they are usually a lighter grain bullet
