Wondering if anyone can help me with this little AMT I have. I love this tiny little gun, despite some of its design problems, like occasionally drawing blood on the webbing between my thumb and index finger, but the other is that it always loosens the grip screws. I'd tightened them and added some lock-tite, but one still managed to work its way loose and freed itself from the gun. I'm looking for a replacement screw. Anyone have any idea where I can find one or a set of grip screws for this pistol? TIA

WooHoo! I used to own one of those, when they first came out. Then it developed a horrific case of trigger slap, and attempted to remove my trigger finger! That was a real shame too, it was very reliable and accurate.

Sorry I cannot help with the screw, but this will bump your post back to the top.

Have you tried www.e-gunparts.com ?

I don't know if they have it or not, but it's worth a try.

If that doesn't work for you, go to a hardware store with one of the grip screws and see if they can match it up with something off the shelf. Many times they can and you can easily shorten a screw that is too long. If you can find out the thread size, you will also have an easier time if you try to search online. Once you have the info on the thread size, you can probably give Brownells a call or e-mail and see if they can help you find something that will fit.

As a last resort, you could always get a gunsmith to change the thread on the frame to a standard size. I had this done on my FEG that came with a stripped grip screw. It was something like $10 to retap all the gripscrew holes in the frame and provide new screws.

I like my AMT Backup. Work very well for me, although it certainly isn't your pleasant Saturday plinker. Also, the compactness of the gun tends to accentuate the size of the hole when look down the barrel from the wrong end!

Thanks for the replies. I bought this gun, new, in 1996, shortly after they first came out. I've shot about 500 rounds through it at the range, and it definitely isn't something I like to have target practise with for more than 20-30 rounds at a time. I have looked on the internet through searches for AMT parts and gun parts in general, but I have not contacted any of the businesses via email or phone to confirm they don't have these screws. I also went to a local hardware store this past Sunday and the grip screws appear to be the size of an 3mm bolt, but the threads are more course than a standard 3mm bolt. It didn't match up with anything metric nor SAE that they had in stock. I've been thinking of drilling and retapping the holes, but can't bring myself to do this, just yet. I have access to all the equipment, so I can do this at a cost of new screws....I figure less than a dollar. I passed up on a set of grips and screws on eBay for under $15. Maybe I should have bought them just to have spares. The guy had a used barrel for sale, too. Thanks, again. :)
