John, real nice pistol...Do you keep your 1911's in pretty much in the original configuration, or do you change out & add "Wilson" internals like many do; especially if they do a lot of firing?
BTW, do you have 1927 Hartford Colt made for the Argentine Govt? If so, appeciate a pic...
I think if you changed out anything on a "United States Property" marked 1911 you'd greatly diminish its value, unless it was hacked before it came your way.
I think that you are right about any permanent changes. The nice thing about the Gov't model platform is you can change things, then change back to the original configuration.
Remember, at one time these pistols were not considered collectable items, but as the cheap basis for a custom gun.
Not all of those modifications were all that desirable.
I bet many of the original looking stock guns had different slides and grips just a few short years ago. E-Bay is probably responsible for putting more of the old guns in more or less original condition than anything else.
