I was handling a .17HMR cartridge, and it struck me how much it looks like an old fashioned fixed artillery round. Would it not be kinda cool if someone made some firing scale field pieces, like a German 88mm anti tank gun, or a French 75mm pack howitzer, in .17 HMR? Single shot just like the originals. Be nothing but an expensive little toy, but pretty darn nifty.

Just a random thought.

The only problem I see is that .17 hmr out of a 3 or 4 inch barrel would still have a ballistic range of over a mile. Plus with a scale artillery piece you can't really look down the sights to be sure of your target... could be dangerous.

However, If you built in tiny adjusting servos and wired it to a ballistic targeting app for an iphone...

As long as you had a reliable way to sight it in, because it is still rifle. This will have way more range and velocity than a scale blackpowder cannon. But if you could sight it in and had a safe place to shoot it... What Fun!

Exactly. Fink, that would be the trick, wouldn't it, a firing version of an 88 wouldn't be very large, and would need to be able to traverse and elevate with a stable base.
Now, would this be a rifle, handgun, or would ATFE step in and AoW it?
