I use Ramshot SILHOUETTE for jacketed bullets in .45 ACP. With 200 gr. SWCs I use WST. I load the 185 gr. Golden Saber and get good accuracy with Silhouette and I can get +P velocity without +P pressure.
This sounds very interesting. Where did you find this information. I would like to know how certain it is.

I just got a 45, and when my components get in, I'm going to start loading for it. I got two cans of Silhouette in my last powder order, and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I've been using 7.5g WAP (silhouette) in 45ACP with 200g lswc for a long time. Lately I've decided 5.6g Win231 is actually a better powder. 231 recoils less and has noticeably less muzzle blast. 5.5g Green Dot also works very well.

Where WAP really shines is in 9mm and 40SW max loads. According to Winchester this powder was developed for 38 Super. 45ACP at max P barely develops enough pressure for WAP to burn clean. At 9mm pressures it works very well.

WAP is also one of the few powders that is not very temperature sensitive.

www.ramshot.com Check out the data for Silhouette and jacketed bullets. ;)

DBR, did you ever load up some WAP with jacketed bullets? My results have been very good. For Cast loads I agree there are probably better powders and I use 231 and WST.

I have loaded 230g Montana Gold 45 ACP using up to 7.5g of WAP. WAP is a VERY forgiving powder at the higher charge weights. It seems to be very linear in pressure vs charge. WAP worked fine with the jacketed bullets.

However, the fact remains that you need about 1/3 more WAP for a given velocity than Win 231. This results in greater recoil and higher muzzle pressure (blast). I have noticed less leading with 200g HC LSWC in my 45ACP guns with WAP as compared to W231. I can only speculate that the slower rise time to peak pressure of WAP might allow the bullet to seat in the rifling better before so much gas leaks by.

I've loaded many rounds using Silhouette and recently started using HP-38(Win 231) and in all calibers Hp-38 had noticably more felt recoil than Sillouetter.Unless 231 is different I disagree that 231 has less recoil.Amount of powder used in a load isn't an indication of recoil.

The most overlooked powder I can think of is PB.
Very clean burning.
