I fully expected this pile to end up in the trash can and it be a learning experience, but I have a useable holster.

Scrap leather from Hobby Lobby, waxed cotton thread, and what appears to be overpriced Elmer’s glue.

I rough cut the face piece and got it hot and wet to be pliable. That kinda worked, should have gave it more time. I tried to form it around the gun but that was a failure. I may try again, but doubtful. Then I pinned the corners where I wanted them with small nails and punched the holes to sew. Lacing was a pain, and next time I try this I will let it dry more and I will drill my lacing holes. Last step was cutting the belt slots. I just basically hacked it because I wasn’t satisfied with the look but the fit was decent so it’s useable. It feels good and has plenty retention for now. If I stitch on a face piece I can make it look a whole lot better and end up with a fairly nice piece for my first try.

Years ago Tandy used to make kits. They were a great way to get started. As your skills grew you could by more tools. Move on to using patterns and finally design and make stuff from scratch.

I think Tandy is gone but there is likely an internet source for such things.

Good ol' Tandy Leather. I had a slew of leather tools when I was in middle school in the late '70s. Leather work was one of the Industrial Arts here back in the day. :)

Hobby Lobby sells kits. I think they are ReaLeather or Real Leather brand... however they spell it. The holster kits aren’t bad, like 20 bucks for a single action holster kit and a bit less for a pancake holster kit which shows a 1911, but could fit nearly anything remotely close to duty size.

Sooo not 20 for the western. 50 seems ridiculous. The 15 for the pancake seems right though.
