I use not only all the brains I have, but all I can borrow.

25 States allow anyone to buy a gun, strap it on, and walk down the street with no permit of any kind: some say it's crazy. However, 4 out of 5 U.S. murders are committed in the other half of the country: so who is crazy?

FORD, ANDREW

Anybody know when that was said? I like the idea, but I find it hard to believe 25 states allowed permit free carry within the past 80 yrs. or so.

Triad, dunno for sure. It's been in my files for at least three or four years, but I don't have any extra notations about it (which means I probably found it on a quotes page rather than capturing it in its native environs).

Other quotes by Andrew Ford:
If you've got a gun law that criminals will obey, why not just turn it into a murder law that criminals will obey—then we won't have to worry about the gun part." -- Andrew Ford

"Without either the First or Second Amendment, we would have no liberty; the first allows us to find out what's happening, the second allows us to do something about it! The second will be taken away first, followed by the first and then the rest of our freedoms." -- Andrew Ford

"The price of liberty is, always has been, and always will be blood: the person who is not willing to die for his liberty has already lost it to the first scoundrel who is willing to risk dying to violate that person's liberty. Are you free?" -- Andrew Ford

Accuracy is to a newspaper what virtue is to a lady, but a newspaper can always print a retraction. -- Adlai E. Stevenson

Triad,

One more thought. Keep in mind that he was probably referring to open carry, not concealed carry. That would mean ... mmm. Most the southern states, most the western states, Alaska, Vermont ... might be 25 of those.

People will accept your ideas much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first. -- David H. Comins

pax, I thought about open carry, but I don't see that either, although it might have been that way.

Maddock, don't thank me, thank cuchulainn.
