And we're not allowed to carry on campus because... ?

Upon seeing the thread title, I had to just say: And we're not "allowed" to carry everywhere we go because...?

I mean, really. There's no logic in today's society.

I suggest you read Peter Mancus' Liberty over at www.keepandbeararms.com

Cheers,
Wes

we cant carry in colleges because a classroom full of adults is not a place for a gun, i mean, in the course of academic debate, i might get upset and shoot someone!

Colleges must remain "Gun Free Zones" in order to make it easier for the next maniac to rack up a huge body count unopposed.

You can't carry on campus for one reason. The school is private property and your government gave private entities the right to make their own rules.

Umm, I don't know about SC, but here in Oregon it's perfectly legal to CCW on campus.

So I'm not sure what you're talking about :D

College campuses are one of those special places where really extreme liberals are allowed to mantain control with noone reasonable to tell them when to cut it out. This is whay concealed carry is not allowed on most campuses.

Here in Texas, you can carry concealed with a CHL on state university property, BUT, the second you step one inch inside a building, your ??? goes to jail (theoretically). It's the most rediculous thing I've heard of. It's ok to carry your gun while walking from your vehicle (at night across a deserted campus), but you better leave the damn thing hidden in outside...God help ya if you bring it inside... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Because the gummit gonna take care of you. [translated, we the gummit can't control you if the people , including students and faculty are armed].

Because if we "re- educate" long enough people will give in. See Emerson was wrong ( according to gummit) this silly business of "self responsiblity" is wrong for the good of the State...err...and this Thoreau fella with Civil Disobedience...oh my, can't have that...

Being an older returning student anyone remember Pink Floyd ?

I think c_yeager is spot on. Plus, do you really think the college administrators trust the students to be responsible adults?

I will admit that maybe liability insurance has something to do with it, but let the CCW holding crime victims start suing because of their disarming and see what happens. (though I guess the bulk of students < 21, and therefore not eligible for CCW in most states).

Kearns is barred from stepping foot on the USC campus. If found on campus, he could be arrested for trespassing.
Oooooooo!!! TRESPASSING? Throw the damn book at him. Anyway, like this little condition of his release is going to stop him. HE'S A CRIMINAL. HE DOESN'T GO BY THE LAW.

In point of fact, most college campuses are public property, by virtue of their recieving state funds for maintenence and upkeep. There is no legal reason why carrying a weapon should be restricted on public property.

Gunsmith, actually most of the campuses in Utah have rules against carrying on campus. U of U is vehemently trying to make it illegal to bring a gun on any campus. Seems there's too many sheep there.

Spot on, Chris.

The majority of these "schools" are tax-funded by the public.

This enters into that "public/private" partnership entities such as football stadia, et al.

They say they are private entities, but are funded, either through bonds/taxes/whatever - it's still a taxpayer-funded entity, but are "private" according to legaleese. :barf:

Catch-a 22 = you get to finance (public) whilst losing any semblance of rights (private).

If you take a concerted effort to see, you'll find many an entity that falls within these "legal" boundaries.

Disgusting.

& besides, if a 12 year old can pass the CCW test, why not allow it>

I've known many a responsible youngster who I'd trust with a shotgun in back of me while hunting, but would never allow a 45 yr old anywhere close to a car key .....

Booze, drugs, children acting foolish. Take your pick.

I know at 21 everybody thinks they know everything, but as you get a little older your opinion might change. Mine did.

In Kentucky, I have GOOD NEWS and BAD NEWS.

The GOOD news: CCW is legal in post-secondary institutions.

The BAD news. While legal, most Colleges (including mine) prohibit students from carrying. They will likely be permanently expelled if caught. - It's one of the rules they must agree to when signing up.

Teachers have the same problem. There is the "no-weapons" policy that can result in dismissal.

So, if I have this straight...... it IS legal to enter our school building while carrying (if you have your CCW) but if you are a student or faculty member, you can be expelled/fired for doing so.
