I am thinking of getting an ankle holster. I currently have a pocket holster and an IWB holster for my Kahr PM9. I find that carrying using a pocket or IWB is really cumbersome when sitting down, whether in a car or place of business. I really don't lke the idea of taking the gun out of my pocket when I get in the car and putting it back in my pocket when I get out of the car just so I can have the gun handy. I almost think that for sitting down in the car or place of business an ankle holster might provide quicker access to the gun. Certainly, when you are standing up, having to reach down to your ankle to retrieve a gun is going to be slower than IWB/pocket but I am pretty sure it would be quicker when sitting to reach to your ankle than try to pull a gun out of your pocket or wastband. I guess there are trade offs either way.

How do people that have used an ankle holster feel about them.

I have a snubnose revolver on my ankle everyday, I am sitting in my car most of the day and access to my ankle gun is quick and unobstucted. Access to my gun when in/on my Pocket, Apendix, or Waist is better when standing or walking but for car or office carry ankle is a good choice for me.

Galco Ankle Glove. I carry a S&W 642 as a BUG in that holster and it is extremely comfortable. Plan on getting one for my G-26 soon.

^^^

I use the Ankle Glove as well. I've been carrying the G26 for awhile now with no problems. I have it on right now as we speak. It's not bad at all in the summer. We've had 80-90 here for the last few weeks and it hasn't been an issue.

long term ankle carry may not be in your best interest...i did for several years, and now have circulation issues in that leg.....

One for each BUG

I own a ankle rig for all my BUG and those that are small enough to go deep cover when that is useful [ social dress up ].

S&W 442/S&W 360/Glock 27/Kimber Solo/Rorghbaugh 9mm/Ruger LCP/Kahr PM40/
and a few that I own and never use = North American .22 mag/Seecamp .32.

But normally I carry a primary on the strong side belt as I did while working with one for 30 years.

OK if you spend most of your time seated. World's slowest draw if you're standing. If you live in a hot climate and spend any time outdoors it is very uncomfortable wearing an ankle holster. You need pants that have a fairly loose cut. Dress slacks are okay but for blue jeans you'll want a boot-cut leg. Otherwise you end up with a big bulge at the bottom of your leg and the world's slowest draw becomes even slower.

Way back when, I'd used ankle holster carry. It's difficult to get to (even in my 20's) unless seated. I would never use this method for a primary weapon.

Ankle carry can indeed be quite fast if seated or in any temporary position such as squatting or deeply crouched. As already mentioned, the trousers must accommodate this carry method; forget skinny jeans! Extra-long inseam length is REALLY important!

I do not favor carrying my only weapon at the ankle! I tend to carry multiple weapons; one being at ankle level is OK.

Footwear can help; the top of a chukka-height boot can serve as a resting place for the bottom of the rig, allowing some rigs to be worn less tightly. This probably works best with quite sturdy leather rigs, compared to slimmer synthetic rigs. I favored Danner Patrol and
Mountain Light Boots, and Alessi ankle holsters, when I regularly used ankle carry. This allowed the quite heavy SP101 to ride comfortably all day.

I still use ankle carry at times, when circumstances and clothing favor.

I should add that I am relatively quite flexible, and have a fairly short torso and quite long arms, which favor my being able to reach my ankle.

I used a DeSantis ankle holster with a Walther PPK for a while, but I started getting knee pains from walking around with an ankle weight on just one leg affecting the way I walked.

not enough padding on the ankle bone

I occasionally wear on the ankle, but only with boots that cover the ankle. The holster rides on the top of the boot, not the bone.

I was carrying on the ankle and had a road-rager try to get my door open. I had pulled the PM9 from the holster without his knowing. Good thing for him he did not succeed.

I use the Gould & Goodrich ankle holster with the garter to carry my 642 as a BUG at work. I wear tall boots, so I don't feel the pinch around the ankle. The garter helps hold the weight up as well.

I won't ankle carry outside of work, though. Outside of work, I stick to strong side belt or strong side front pocket carry.

I occasionally carry my .380 inside my right ankle as I am left handed. I only do this if there is no other option, I use a Desantis rig. I find it annoying when driving and hard to get to if wearing high work shoes.

I have the desantis apache for my glock 27. it's not as bad as people would say, works very well except the draw is a bit slow. get down on one knee to draw. printing is minimal and no one ever notices it even when one leg appears bigger than the other unlike some iwb holsters. i didn't like it at first but over time i love it.

I have a couple of ankle holsters from Galco, both being the "cop ankle band". I usually have my P238 on my ankle as a BUG. With the P238, I barely notice that its there. If I am in a situation where having my primary on my belt isn't appropriate, then I will place my Springfield 3" 1911 on my ankle. This is noticeably heavier but still tolerable.

I have a Blackhawk size 12 ankle holster that fits all my BUGs and my wife's pistols like a glove. Most of the time I forget I even have a holster there.

@ gordon

I am sorry to inform you that although his "family" is still using his name = LOU ALESSI is gone and so are HIS holsters.

I was a friend of his and still own many of his holsters [ and belts ] but the stuff that is turned out now is not at all like his stuff.

Skip Ritchie [ Ritchie Leather ] was a partner of Lou's and he is making good leather holsters [ in Alessis's old shop ] in the same vein as Lou did.

I now own a 'few' of Skip's and they work just fine.

I am very disappointed at the stuff with Lou's name on it now.

And I too wear an ankle rig 90% of the time [ otherwise the BUG is in the pocket ].
