Going to be at U of M for a couple months this summer. Any good gun stores or ranges that one can get to?

That area is one of the most anti-gun areas in the state. I can't stand UofM or the associated area and the reasons reach far beyond guns!

What is the pricing and/or restrictions on these ranges? I will be down that way around August so this makes for a good time to research.

I'm not really sure, I haven't been to the firing line in over a year. I went to college in Canton, and we'd occasionally go shooting after class. It might have been $20/hr or somewhere in that range.

I figured I'd register to help you out.

The Firing Line in Westland/Canton off of Ford/Hix charges $15 an hour for a lane, $10/hr for a handgun rental, and $20/hr for a Carbine rental. There is ammunition for sale on site, and they will require you to purchase from them if you intend to shoot wolf, or a rental. The backstop is not rated for centerfire rifles, so it's pistols, pistol caliber carbines, and rimfire rifles only. A firing rate of 1 round per second is enforced, and you may not draw from your holster. The staff is also rude and condescending, and won't hesitate to talk **** about your choice in firearms.

PS: Despite there being two rooms w/ several lanes each seperated by a dividing wall, all lanes are assigned and they will not let you use the empty room of lanes, even if you intend to instruct a new shooter. This can be a real pain in the ass when the instructee can't hear you.

Then, there's the Tri county gun club.
http://www.tcsl.org/

Non-members can shoot for $15, but must have a member accompany them to whatever range you intend to shoot at. .50BMGs are not allowed. Yearly membership costs $125, and requires 10 hours of community service - the club is run by volunteers, and there is only one "employee", whom only exists for legal purposes. You have to be vouched for by 2 club members, but that's strictly a formality from the club charter that happens when they read you in to the club. There aren't a whole lot of rules, but safety is #1 as it should be. I haven't paid my dues yet, but I will be eventually.

There is no ammo on site, but they're right by a semi-remote walmart.

Welcome to the forums Wookie! I appreciate your information. The Firing Line sounds like the worst range ever! You certainly won't see me in there if they are half as bad as you have said they are. I will check into that club though.
