This must have been a misprint... Felon's are not allowed to own guns in Maine.
FARMINGTON, Maine -- A Carthage man accidentally shot himself in the calf Monday morning when he set off a small pistol in his sweatshirt pocket.
David Jackson, 46, is a quadriplegic and the handgun he had was loaded and had no safety, said Sgt. Vicki Gardner of the state police.
He was in the bathroom of his Jackson Hole Road when the gun discharged. Gardner said that he was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
After he was released from the hospital, Gardner said Jackson was arrested on the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon around 8 p.m. Monday.
A member of the Franklin County jail said that Jackson has bailed out of jail.
Gardner said a number of law enforcement agencies assisted in the case. Investigators relied on a Maine Warden Service four-wheel drive truck to ascent the steep road on which Jackson's house was located.
