Back in February I traded an old rifle for a model of 1905, 4th change, and in May I bought a 2 inch nickel plated model 10. While visiting an area gun shop a couple days ago I came across a model 15-3. It has a few scuffs and some bluing loss here and there but locks up tight and has a great trigger. Price was under $400 so Its now mine. First thing I did was get rid of the Pachmyer grip so it could look respectable

When it comes to S&W revolvers I don't really have a plan. I buy what strikes my fancy and pops up in the area when I have some cash. While I have a couple of N frames and a couple J frames, it seems that K frame 38 specials are what I have ended up being drawn to. I do have one other K frame but its a 22 (617). I'd kind of like to add a 6 inch M14 at some point.

You say that you don't really have a plan when it comes to S&W revolvers. ..

well , if you had a plan to acquire one of the great .38 special shooters of all time , you could declare MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

(And , at really good price.)

I first saw the gun almost 3 weeks ago. It was in a gunshop about an hour and 15 minutes from where I live. I usually only visit this shop 4 or 5 times a year since there are many much closer. Thought about it off and on the whole 3 weeks. I hadnt really checked it out very closely and had only seen one side of it. Finally I couldnt take it anymore. I called to verify they still had it and drove down on Friday afternoon
Combat Masterpiece has to be the best gun name ever

Plan or no plan, you have a very nice K frame collection! And I agree with you; a Model 14 would be the perfect addition to the collection!

Oh, and your Model 15 cleaned up very nicely!

The gun was dull, dirty and wearing Pachmyer presentation grips when I got it. Tag said $399.95 and it looked rough enough that I almost considered passing on it. I got the shop to knock off 2.5% for a cash purchase which brought it to $389.95. It took 2 hours to get it cleaned and polished up. It ended up nicer than expected

You have an awesome family!

Don't really need a plan. Buying S&W's = nice shootable collection and, you can never have to many K frames;)

A shootable collection is my only real goal. I want them to look decent but don't want perfect old revolvers that are so nice that shooting them would ruin the value

Stopped by one of the LGS's yesterday and spotted a very nice 2 inch, square butt Model 15-1 wearing G10 stocks in the case. The salesman said it was the owner's who was selling it to fund something else. It came with another set of Pachmayr grips and a Kydex pancake belt holster and was marked $650.00. Before I could start talking it down (turn line and a little place on the right side of the muzzle where the blue was missing), I got a text from my lieutenant telling me that the chief had fired one of my guys. I ended up having to leave to pull his shift (1500-2300), and as I was walking out the door another guy was drooling over the damn' thing. I certainly don't need it, but I didn't even get the pleasure of negotiating. Working 0700-1500 today (yes, an 8 hour turnaround), so I'll have to update this when I get a chance to go back over there.

I just purchased my 3rd K frame, a 15-3 that someone put a 6" target barrel on. It wont be here for a couple of days so I'm not sure if it will be a winter project (which is fine) or a shooter.

Those are great guns. I should have picked up several when they were 200 n under when the wonder nines came out. Years ago I though I should pick one or more model 15 up for a bunch of 38 special brass I had acquired and use in my .357's. I found a pre model 15 K-38 4" and just before facebook shut down gun sales I found a stainless 67 for what ya just paid- TT and target hammer ... they both shoot great! As far as the pachmeyers go- there isn't a nicer shooting grip for the k n n frames if ya have the one that fits your hand- they made both large n small in a few flavors. I still love them for actually shooting my revolvers... definitely better than the magna grips for most folk! - for shooting anyhow :)

Congrats to the OP on a great acquisition! To me, the model 15 is the best value in the high quality revolver market, bar none. I purchased all but one of my model 15's or Combat Masterpieces for under $400 within the last several years. The OP made a great buy, but there are many 15's out there at this low price. If I had lots more money - and a lot less guns in my collection - I'd go on a crazy model 15 buying spree and purchase all these world class revolvers at crazy low prices. :D :D

I certainly agree with Jim NE. I have a 4" and a 2". Great Guns. There is no following for Model 15's or 67's here in SC. Everybody here wants a "Magnum". Was at a gunshow this past weekend and there was probably 6-8 for sale in various condition and priced very fair. One seller said that the model 15 he had was the only gun that had not been looked at all weekend! I started to take at least one home but got on a Model 36 and 60 buying spree so I decided I had spent enough. I wish that Smith and Wesson had produced a 3" Model 15. I would pay through the nose for one.

You and me both!
