Another anti-gun org undoubtedly funded by the Joyce Foundation (too lazy to check): http://www.protectpolice.org

Check out their "facts" page: http://www.protectpolice.org/facts/

Scroll down to the bottom and look at the bar chart titled, "US Homicides*" Under the graph is the following comment:
After years of steady decline, murder and violent crime are once again on the rise – particularly in America’s towns and cities.

Source: Federal Bureau of Investigation, Uniform Crime Reports

However, anyone who bothers to check the source will note that the murder rate remained virtually unchanged for the period charted (actually the rate declined by .1).

Pathetic.

(All of the charts have an asterisk after their title, but I couldn't find what the asterisks are referring to.)

Of course they lie, because the facts simply do not support gun control. True facts and statistics actually favor the 2'nd Amendment.

The fact that there they list police organizations opposing them http://www.protectpolice.org/links/ is enough to make you doubt their credibility, since
1. They clame to out to protect law enforcement, yet law enforcement opposes them and
2. They try to blacklist law enforcement agencies by way of that list.

It's sick :barf:

"Mayors Against Illegal Guns".... Bloomberg....

Nothing more needs to be said, except that it's full of misrepresentations where they're not lies. :barf:

You mean it's not on the rise in rural unpopulated areas?

You win the DUH award.

What appears to have happened is a very slight uptick in these crimes. They are still at such a low compared to the beginning of the period in question as to make the slight increase apparent today nonsense.

But this isn't stopping the criminal and terrorist friendly folks from trying to use it against Concealed Carry or any sort of Firearms ownership....

The media will run anything the Brady campaign sends them....

Regards,

This is actually funny....

Looking at their own stats for some so called 56 reporting jurisdictions that the problems are local issues.

As I read through it there are lots and lots of places that are reporting decreases in violent crime and crime with firearms.....anyone else also notice a correlation between those places that allow CCW and a decrease in crime? Coincidence ;)

http://www.policeforum.org/upload/Violent Crime Report 3707_140194792_392007143035.pdf

For 2005-6 (poor sampling due to 2 year spread)

Homicide up 3.09% (no mention of methods...guns, knives, chansaws, woodchippers)

Robbery up 6.45% again localized to some problem areas that skew the average

AA -2.24%

AA with Firearm 1.03%

Thier stats are a waste of time and show nothing more that that there are cities and regions that are doing very well and enjoying a decrease in crime and then there are problem areas like DC, PG County, Montgomery County, Baltimore County that are all seeing a huge uptic in violent crime......they continue to ignore the underlying problems that are the actual root problems.

haha I'm not quite sure I understand of the tactice of showing how many police disagree with your cause. ahh this makes me giggle.

Nope. That was the main point of my post. There was not an uptick in the homicide rate. The actual number slightly increased, but the rate declined.

Joyce Foundation can't take credit for this one. It's Bloombers creation, all the way
Maybe we can give credit to both, but the Website looks like it was Joyce Foundation inspired. I had the energy to Google this morning and found: http://www.joycefdn.org/Programs/GunViolence/GunViolenceDetails.aspx?GNewsId=11
"As of this writing, 123 mayors have joined the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition, which is supported in part by a $175,000 Joyce Foundation grant."

Yeah, pretty much. Crime seems to track temperature and economic opportunity more than gun laws. CCW is handy for saving your own bacon, but it doesn't correlate nearly as well as the other factors.

In my mind, CCW is a really good idea, but I don't see it explicitly supported anywhere in the constitution. The 2nd ammendment is about keeping the citizens well enough armed that the government can be cowed with the threat of insurrection. Unfortunately, most people won't worry too much about losing rights as long as they can watch American Idol.

Love it when they pull stats out their a**.. if you look at any credible statistics it clearly shows that guns aren't the problem.. hell even canada is starting to become more gun friendly.. they are about to eliminate registration of fire arms
