You might remember a post I made a few weeks ago in which I described a new Buck fixed blade knife that I had acquired and was the "Buck entry" for the new knives the S.E.A.L.'s would carry. Someone was also kind enough to post a picture of it for me. (Thanks again!) However, as I looked and LOOKED at this fine blade, I simply could NOT see why it was turned down. So, I sent A.G. Russell an e-mail asking what knife could POSSIBLY be picked over the Buck. (A.G. is kind enough to answer my e-mails personally. It's nice to have friends in "high places".:) ) Anyway, he told me that the SOG SEAL was the knife that was chosen. (Humm. I wonder if SOG could still call it that if it HADN'T been chosen.) Naturally, I just HAD to have one of these in my collection also.
At the gun and knife show last weekend, I purchased the only slightly smaller version called "The Seal Pup". This IS a fine knife. In fact:fire: , I've already cut myself. (TWICE!!) The fixed blade "Pup" is TRULY "razor sharp". (How do they get an edge like that?!) The first time I ran it down my arm, the Pup shaved every hair off down to smooth skin. I found this quite amazing. Even mesmerizing. Which, of course, led to the first bloody cut. I just HAD to see that shaving action again! I shaved the blade down my arm with great delight watching the hairs "pop" off and when I came to my left hand, the first bad "nick" occurred.:banghead:
The Pup comes with a very nice Kydex sheath that locks the knife into position (You aren't going to lose this one!) and is large enough to fit over a "web" belt. The Pup is a fine knife with a strange gray coating that kinda looks like granite. I still like the Buck entry, but I now think I know why the SOG was chosen. It was just a "toss-up".

Good choice. I've got the full-size SOG SEAL knife. Bought it because I liked the look, not so much because it was the "SEAL" knife and I've been pleased. This thing is a monster. Not as elegant as my Benchmade fixed blade but it seems like a tough, tough knife.
