So I was in my lgs today and saw a ruger #1 sitting on the rack, now the ruger #1 is my favorite rifle so I just had to take a look. I picked it up and the first thing I notice is a tag marked pre owned unfired $715 otd. Now at this point I almost threw down cash and walked out without even looking at the caliber, but I didn't. So I look on the barrel because for some reason it wasn't on the tag and I see this .375 H&H MAG. Now I'm really getting excited as this is my favorite rifle cartridge of all time (in theory because I've actually yet to shoot one). So I ask the owner whats up with the price, he says some old fella came in with it said it was unfired and he needed money for bills so he gave him $625 because he felt being a .375 H&H that it would never sell. Well here it is sitting next to me in my chair at home, so much for never selling. I got 3 boxes of old stock 1980's winchester 300gr round nose ammo for $26 a box, so I should be set for brass and now I'm off to midway for some dies and bullets. The biggest rifle I've ever shot was a 7mm mag. so I have a feeling this is gonna be a new experience wish me luck.

Kyle, I'm on my second .375 and enjoy the cartridge immensely. I've (legally) killed everything from ducks to Cape Buffalo with one.

:D

great find! i recently shot a ruger #1 for the first time (7mm stw), and really enjoyed it. i think that one would've followed me home as well.

Those No1's always gave me a headache as a younger man. Maybe it's the breechface being that much closer to my nose but that kind of 'cleared my sinuses' to shoot.

But if you like them, that barrel contour wth the 1/4 rib is supposed to be excellent for snap-shooting.

Congrats! One great looking classic design with some very nicely figured wood! Outstanding buy in a .375 H&H rifle.

Yeah the wood was one thing that made it a must buy. It seems like every other No.1 I've seen has just had plain straight grained wood on it. This stock rivals my dads browning citori.

Beautiful rifle! The .375 isn't bad at all, IMO; I find the .338 Win mag a bit worse. I've owned two .375s and daily regret letting them go.

Well I took it out and put 3 rounds through it and got my dad to shoot it once. While it was more recoil than I've ever dealt with before I didn't find it to be bad at all. Honestly I think it was a blast to shoot, and I can see this rifle staying with me for a long time. It seems to be dead on and I managed to blow a gallon just to shreds at 100 yards on my first shot, and my dad who rarely shoots obliterated a tomato from about 30 yards.

Got to shoot a watermelon with the the ruger today, shot was taken at about 30 yards and I'm fairly certain theres still watermelon in the trees at the range. Can't wait till the pumpkins start growing. This makes 15 rounds I've fired through the rifle not including the 3 a buddy shot and 1 my dad shot, and I'm liking it more and more everytime I pull the trigger. I got my powder measure and case trimmer set up the other night, bullets and dies will be here monday.
