I bought a Walther P22 for my first gun and I love it,
but I have heard a few people on these forums dog it.
However, a quick search of the Internet also shows some
very positive reviews.

So does it suck or not? I mean, it is what it is right?
I know it's not stainless, or reliable as a revolver, but
I have to admit that it is fun as hell to shoot. I only
bought it to gain some shooting skills so I can move on
to a .380.

I spent about $350 at a gun show for it. I know I could have
gotten a better deal but the demand for guns has gone up
everywhere since BHO was elected.

Oh, and I can feed it Federal ammo and not get one FTF or
FTE. Any P22 owners want to chime in on their experiences
with this gun?

I think they are a great little gun & fun plinker.

Yes you paid a little much, but if that's what you wanted & plan to keep it No Big Deal. Enjoy.

Yes they will feed the federal Bulk Pack all day long.

Enjoy, .22lr is a lot cheaper to shoot than any thing else, so in respect to the cost savings on ammo the gun will pay for itself.

i love mine. is it a competiotion target pistol? NO. is it the absolout best pistol on the planet? NO. is it a fun little pistol to shoot? YES! is it a nice little plinker to go out, shoot like crazy, teach your kids how to shoot with all around fun gun? YES! do i NEED a $1k 22 lr pistol to shove up everyones nose, so they can see i have more dollars, than sence? NO! IMO, it is a nice little plinker to go out, shoot a bunch of ammo through, and have fun with. i use it for what it is intender for, and i for one, really like it.

Mine works great. Wouldn't mind buying another one.

Why are you thinking about "upgrading" to a .380? Ammo costs more than it does for 9mm! And, depending on the gun, kicks more than a 9mm.

Get a 9mm instead.

I bought one for my son when they first came out. At that time, the only ones available had that dubious barrel extension on it. I say dubious because after 50 or more rounds, the stupid thing would loosen up and proceed to fall off the end of the barrel. I fixed that problem by buying the shorter barrel and changing out the front sight to compensate for the shorter sight radius. After that it has worked fairly well, but after a hundred rounds, it needs to be cleaned (usually I just spray some WD-40 through it and wipe it down), as performance suffers once it starts to get dirty. Seems to work best with plated ammo, with a preference for CCI MiniMags; worst ammo by far is anything made by Remington. Overall a fun little gun for an afternoon of plinking.

Keep the P22!

I've had mine for a year now. With 2630 rounds through it (Yep, I'm one of those guys who keeps track of every round) I love it. Just don't use Federal Bulk or Winchester Xpert Bulk ammo. Mine hates these. It loves CCI Mini Mags and will make do pretty well on Remington Golden Bullet Bulk.

And you can get a cool holster from Walmart for about $7. It's made for a CO2 pistol, but it fits my P22 perfectly, with a pouch for an extra magazine. Cool.

If you like it, Keep it.

Mine has been frustrating, but I've finally landed on CCI Minimags for the best reliability. The jury is still out if I'm keeping mine. It is just so frustrating to shoot after owning a MKII. I know the P22 is just a plinker and not a target gun, but Walther went cheap on the pot metal slide...that's my biggest frustration with the gun. I don't see it as a gun to pass on to my kids, because I'll probably last longer.

I only bought it to gain some shooting skills so I can move on to a .380.

It is a good gun to gain shooting skills, and mine has taught me to clear jams quickly, but take Dave E's advice and skip the .380 in favor of the 9mm, unless of course you have a specific .380 in mind. If you do, what is it?

Bought one, wanted to love it. Hated it, FTF, FTE, poor consistency, shells eject back at the shooter, etc. Sold it and bought a Ruger.

The main thing is that you are happy with the gun, not anyone else's experience. Shoot it and enjoy it. :)
