Another reason why I agree with self-defense and self-reliance

You sometimes hear that prisoners complain that prison isn't good enough for them. This one guy who's in a county jail awaiting trial for "murder" is now suing the government because the jail he's at feeds them an average of 3,000 calories/day, which he claims is "starving" them, and gives them cold food instead of hot food. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7370362.stm Doesn't that make you want to be allowed to have firearms and be allowed more self-reliance to protect yourself from murderers, when you find out that these murderers are suing because they want to live in prison heaven?

He weighed over four hundred pounds going in. Make sure he gets lots of bacon and sausage. That way the SOB can die of a heart attack and save the tax payers some money in the long run over feeding and housing his fat *$$.

Prisoners do this kind of crap all the time. Especially when they are waiting trial in a county jail with more time on their hands than is good for them. If they fatten this idiot back up and he doesn't die of a heart attack or stroke, well...He'll have other things on his mind than food when he finally goes into general population in State.

Some of you might be quite alarmed if you knew just how clogged U.S. courts are with lawsuits filed by prison inmates. They've nothing but time on their hands, and up-to-date law libraries and administrative assistance paid for by you, the taxpayer.

My state just paid out almost 200 grand to an inmate simply because the court determined the state's DOC didn't expeditiously provide him the miscellaneous and trivial admin documents he'd requested under the state's public disclosure laws ...

And how about nice rec yards, gyms replete with treadmills, stairclimbers and elliptical machines plus mega weightlifting equipment we provide our inmates so they can return to society bigger, stronger, faster and better-conditioned?

Actually, it's my understanding that the strength training equipment has been quietly removed from prisons over the last couple of years.

Not really, but I will throw my $.02 in - we did remove weight training stuff from the yards some time ago, after an inmate used a bar bell to kill another inmate.

I was pointing out that when you hear that those in trouble for murder are suing for things like that, it makes you believe that you have even more of a right for self-protection from would be murderers (such as owning firearms). At least that's how I feel.

As an aside, when I last read that article, wasn't he awaiting trial? Do not assume he is guilty.

That said, were I him, I would be pissed I had to sit in jail for 8 months. Then, happy I lost the weight.

You would think that the prisoners in the US would realize how much nicer they have it then prisoners in like Russia or Mexico. Here in the US you get your 3 sqr meals a day a bed and a roof, plus yard time and a chance to get your degree in crime. Not saying everyone that comes out of prison has not learned from it but I bet a good majority that are doing time aren't 1st timers.

Prisoners file all sorts of crazy lawsuits. They have lots of free time on their hands. Reading some oddball news story doesn't change my opinions on self defense and firearms ownership one bit.
