Just got another Ruger security six. This will be my first time of having a 6" barrel one. I think I made a good trade I traded a Ruger New model Single six 22 / 22 mag. for it. would y'all have made that trade it was gun for gun 005.jpg "] 005.jpg [/URL]

As a huge fan of Ruger's six series .357s, I heartily approve!
That's a great hunk of shootin' iron right there.

Yep, I would make that trade. Single Six's are pretty available and still being made. The Security Sixes aren't. I love mine and with the larger wood grips it shoots really nice.

Absolutely, yes I would. They haven't stopped making Single Sixes, and you can find them in pawn shops/gun stores regularly.

Is that top one an early one with the different grip frame shape? Looks like it to me.

Yeah the top one it is was made in 1972 the first year they made the security six. And also the same year I was born. The 6" barrel one was made in 1982.

Most definitely would make that trade any day of the week! Nice addition to the family.

I had missed it before, but now that you mention it, I can see that it's the 150 series "fastback" grip design. Very cool.

Let's see. I owned a blue 4" Security Six years ago (1982, first new pistol I bought for myself) but had to sell it in hard times. 2001 my son needed $350 so I bought his 4" Ruger GP100 stainless. I shot it in black powder cartridge matches. 2006 my son bought a stainless 4" Security Six used from a friend of my wife's for $200. I traded him even, his GP100 for the Security Six. The Security Six just fit me better.

So long as you're happy with the trade, who cares what everyone else thinks. But yeah, I'd make that trade all day long.

As an aside, I wasn't thrilled with my single six and got rid of it. I much prefer my 617.

Also, I think the security sixes are one of those sleeper guns. One that people often look over but really represent a great value and are of excellent quality. One that will appreciate in value once they are all gone and people realize what they are actually worth. $200-300 for a quality revolver is a steal in my book. If someone offered me on at those prices, I'd buy it even if I didn't need it.

Agreed, but there are really very very few of these around in the lower range that you're discussing. These days people seem to have caught on.

Wife and I actually just bought a Speed Six. Stainless, 2 3/4"bbl, fantastic condition and has had an awesome trigger job done on it. You'd have to feel to believe it. Got it for $375 out the door and we felt like it was a steal. The six series (and especially the Speed Sixes) have gone up quite a bit.

There are about 3 of the low back Security six on gunsamerica . But the cheapest one is 450.00. I really wish a few gun companies would go back to the old school ways of making guns.
