Man abducted and shot – Belfield
Tuesday, 04 Mar 2008 05:27am

Police are investigating an abduction and shooting in Sydney's south west overnight.

Last night a man answered the front door of a home in Lucerne Street, Belmore, and was confronted by five men, one armed with a firearm.

The men forced him from the home and into a vehicle.

He was driven to an unknown location before being taken to a park in Clarence Street, Belfield, and shot in the upper thigh about 10.45pm.

The five men, described as Middle Eastern/Mediterranean in appearance, fled the scene in a late-model black hatchback and a silver 4WD.

Police were called and a crime scene was established.

The 52-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where he is in a stable condition.

Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
Anyone with information about the incident who hasn't yet spoken to police is urged to contact Campsie Police on 9784 9399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Just wanted to counter the Florida Wendy's shooting.

We have our share of gangsters here, and many groups (not all) are ethnically-based. Belmore is in the heart of Lebanese gang territory, based on drugs, car-rebirthing, ram-raiding and other crimes. Every now and again the gangs fight each other. You only have to join the dots in this article to know that one mob were giving a message to another mob. It happens, and of course these guys aren't bothered by any pesky gun laws.

This isn't possible. There are no guns in Australia.
Yeah, right:rolleyes:. There are more legally-owned guns now than there were when we had the buyback (leaving aside the several million which simply "disappeared" out of the system at that time). However it is well-recognised here, even by our criminologists and most politicians, that criminals don't source their guns legally, so the mocking tone isn't really necessary.

It must have ruined his Lamertons as well as his day.
They must have worn all their guns out shooting at unarmed aborigines.
That is a disgraceful thing to post, and far from the High Road.

I have to agree. Post edited.

The shooting may well have been...as Daniel noted...a message to a rival gang member. It may also have been intimidation aimed at someone who has refused to comply with a demand. Until we know more, we can neither make assumptions nor pass judgement. Neither should we take delight in this situation unless and until we've ascertained that he did, in fact, bring it upon himself due to a gang afiliation in a "Dogs and Fleas" analogy.

I'm sure everyone got the point of this thread. Yes, America with its official 300,000,000 people do possess guns as our right and heritage, and yes we do have people who use these weapons recklessly, but it appears that the Commonwealth of Australia purportes to be is a more perfect government than ours, one that protects its citizens through gun control, but it can't really protect it's citizens through gun control is the true message.

We have our Wendy's and Waco's, they have their shootings which I believe are probably covered up as much as possible.

I don't know what was edited about Aborigines, thank God they are thriving again although they need to learn from our Natives and start building Casinoes to reap back what was lost, at least monetarily.

Agreed, and I hope that at some point in the near future, somebody with enough common sense and political clout is able to turn things around for the Australian people as well as the citizens of Great Britain...but I wouldn't hold my breath as long as there are people who believe that the root problem is equipment rather than a social issue...we will continue to see more of same until the people themselves have had enough.

Until then...They continue to be elected...which indicates that they have enough support from the population to remain in charge. Unless and until their support base alters its views...things will likely stay just as they are.

And...From what I understand...there aren't very many pure Abos left. Sad.

Australian gun owners will turn the reminants of the Howard regime around (voting him out of office was the first step). But it can't be done overnight. We have to do it one step at a time. There is a clear and obvious reason why the SSAA (largest Australian pro-gun lobby group) launched a successful campaign into boosting interest of the sport for juniors. Junior membership has soared since then.

Um... it was my understanding from several Aussie friends I have that the term "abo" is used in a very derrogatory manner.

Hopefully, I'm mistaken.

this isn't true. I go to school (a gunsmithing school at that) and one of my classmates is Australian. He and I have talked at great length about the issue of gun control, and what the laws in Australia are. Civilians can own guns, but only breech loaders, and bolt actions. No semi-auto's, slide actions, and I think handguns are what's banned.

On a side note, that Aussie I go to school with is one of the brightest, most forthright, and honorable individuals I've ever had the priviledge to call a friend. If he is in any way indicative of the average Aussie, I would seriously consider moving there. He and his family are a credit to their nation.
