Back in the early '80's a fella left a S&W 629 with me for a couple of years. He also left a box or so of "special ammo" with me. This ammo had a small primer with yellow paint inserted in the "hollow" of a hollow point. He called them "exploders" and said that they had some shotgun powder under the primer. I can tell you that they were exploders. Any one of you guys ever hear of such a thing, or did this fella make them up himself.

It is no longer made. I believe (not sure) it was Super Vel distributed by Bingham, Ltd out of Atlanta, Georgia. As I remember they were no more effective, probably less so, than good quality hollow points that you shoot today.

In Some States, Like Florida, These Rounds Are Illegal.
I Tried Some In A Phone Book Many Years Ago And Was Impressed. They Made A Standard Entry Hole And Then Blew A Much Bigger Hole In The Rear Of The Book And Into The Book Under It.
However, I Never Saw Any Evidence That In A Living Target, They Were Better Than A Good Hollow Point Load.
