Worked for and bought this WIN MOD 70 in .270 in 1978; WIN records by serial # indicate it was made '73-'74; no footplate. I want to clean it up by pulling front and rear sights, putting plug screws in, base and rings, replacing wood stock for synthetic and give it to my son. Now the questions:
1. I'd like a replacement Winchester MOD 70 Ultimate Shadow stock, but all I'm finding are SA stocks in this; I find Ultimate Shadow rifles sold in .270 so I know the stocks at least exist. Where to find?
2. Hogue makes solid replacement stocks but I don't know the diff between full block and pillar...? And there are MANY models from Hogue...LA Sporter, LA Super Shot, etc.
3. Summary: I'd like the Ultimate Shadow stock. I'd buy a Hogue if I knew which to confidently buy. And, I'd be grateful for recommendations for a solid synthetic replacement stock for this rifle.
