How does one go about drying out the bolt after it's been drenched? I went shooting today to try some of the excellent suggestions on sighting in. We are getting a good snowstorm, so my rifle got soaked.

I cleaned and lubed the rifle it'self to a T, and the bolt as well, but I can still work water out of the safty... the tell tale milkshake color liquid. The entire bolt for this rifle has been treated several times over w/ Militec-1 so I'm not really worried about corrosion, but I'd like to know how you guys get your bolts dry after a wet outing.

Should I just blast the thing w/ WD-40 (by the way, is Remington's Bore-Brite basically the same thing w/ some anti fouling additives?) and then re-apply Militec?

Thanks guys, let it snow let it snow let it snow :D

If you don't have an air compressor you can displace it with something like gun scrubber, or even WD-40 if you then wash that out with something that won't gum up.

What kind of bolt? Some come apart so easily that there is no problem in cleaning, others are so tough to disassemble that blowing out moisture or soaking in cleaner are the only feasible methods.

would break cleaner do the trick?

My friend used my 50th Annaversary Ruger MkII and cleaned it with brake cleaner. The plastic grips 'melted' and the blueing dulled.

WD40=Water Displacement 40

It's a Winchester Model 70.

I'll pass on the break cleaner :uhoh:

what is a good protectant?

I took the bolt apart and cleaned it, the safty was the only thing I was wondering about.
