i have an older skeleton stock 77/17, but would like to add another to the herd. Dad has a RAR 17, and while acceptable, hasn't really bowled me over.

Here's what my parameters are.

Needs to be threaded for suppressor, or will be shipped off to be threaded.
Would prefer SS
Would rather not a Savage...not fond of their looks, and have heard bad things on their mags.

I'm looking at settling for the SS RAR, or I've had a hankering for a CZ, but not the justification for a while.

By the time I buy the CZ and send the barrel off to be threaded...I haven't found a threaded 17 so far, I'm going to be a couple bills over the RAR.

Is the CZ enough better? Has anyone shot both side x side?

Will anyone thread a 17 barrel? Will I loose the potential the CZ has by having someone mess with it?

Anyone know of a threaded CZ 17 around for sale?

If the American doesn't excite you (it doesn't me either) I don't see a reason to settle for one. Personally I'd recommend a Savage, I love my Mark II, and a buddy of mine has a 93 BTV in .17 HMR that is an absolute tack driver. Their mags might be a tad more cumbersome than the rotary of the Ruger, but neither of us has ever had issues with them.

But if you've ruled Savage out, and the Ruger isn't that appealing, then I think you've answered your own question. Get the CZ. Heck, sell the 77/17 to help fund it if need be.

I have two 17 HMR rifles. A CZ American and a Savage 93R17 FV, non accutrigger. They are both very good shooters even though the Savage trigger is a bit on the heavy side. I will never get rid of the CZ, period. It will be passed down to my children. The Savage I would sell tomorrow, I have no attachment to it whatsoever.
To me, the CZ just has more personality. And it doesn't hurt that it's more accurate than I am. I'm sure it could be shortened and threaded if you wanted.

Been poking at this search for options between other work projects today. Found a used CZ that fits my desire, but has a goofy (to me) thumbhole stock. With all the folks out there pulling off the OEM synthetic stocks, do those ever show up for sale?
