Senate anti-gunners have halted gun background check talks with senator Coburn of OK. Coburn is opposed to records of background checks conducted on private gun sales.

Democrats' failure to resolve a final dispute with the Oklahoma Republican means their road to pushing the measure through Congress will be tougher. Coburn has an A-rating from the National Rifle Association and could have prompted backing from other Republicans and from moderate Democrats from GOP-leaning states leery of alienating voters.

As with everything else the Dems have done, there was never any intention of any "compormise". The whole purpose of the exercise was to sucker in naive fools like Coburn and Manchin, demand they surrender, then blame them for "wanting to kill children" when the talks fail.

It is a neat, and very effective, scheme, used by people with no scruples and no qualms about doing whatever it takes to get their way.

I believe Coburn was only interested in making it easier for people to be in the NICs who were already judged to be mentally defective by a judge. His line in the sand was that no data will be kept on any private sale. The Anti-2as desperately wanted some data, ANY data, to be kept somewhere, (no doubt so that later on they could get their hands on it).

calls from his constituents no doubt strengthened Coburn's resolve to keep that line in the sand, but he continues, IMHO to be a man of principle. For example, he is not running after two terms...a self imposed term limit that he announced from the start.

I spoke with an aide today and asked him to pass on my appreciation of Coburn's stand. PLease consider doing so already, even if you are not a constituent.
