I have been watching a movie from 1996 entitled Eraser and I saw what appears to be an ancient red dot atop some semi auto...the rear looks like a 92f, but the barrel doesn't.

Whatever the weapon is, the sight seem ungainly...

I was going to say Nydar. They were a prismatic type that projected ambient light into a ring on the glass, originally for shotguns.
I had one a long time ago, complete with leather cover, but never found a good gun to put it on and gave it away to a friend. They were neat and worked pretty well as long as you were in direct sunlight.

I had something similar to it on my HK back in the 90's. I think this one was a Holosun. They project the dot onto the screen like an Eotech.

Older "old school" would be one of the "OEG" type dots, but I never saw one on a handgun. I had a couple on rifles in the late 80's, early 90's, and the way they work also translates to current red dots with front covers, when used with the covers closed.

Not my gun, but I had one on my one 91, with a similar mount.

Yeah, I should have recognized the Nylar, as I have one made in the 40s that fits my 1939 LC Smith 12g
