Any bad 1911's out there?

Do the commander and CCO size 1911's compare favorable to the gov't size? What about the ones with aluminum or alloy frames? I've got the itch for a comander or CCO bad, and while it will have to wait for quite a while, it never hurts to start doing the research early.

The commander slide which is the same as the CCO do not have the timing uses that officers have.

Aluminum frames do not last as long as steel ones IMHO but if you choose one from a good manufacturer like Dan Wesson or Colt for a CCO. For a commander there are tons of good 4.25" 1911s.

What about the Scandium framed ones from S&W?

IMHO good guns but I am not a fan of external extractors on 1911s. That is not to say they do not run well but I simply do not like them. Call me a traditionalist. I have been called worse.

The Scandium frames like other Alum frames will be snappier than their steel counterparts.

The Scandium adds a bit of elasticity to the aluminum alloy of the frame, but their wear properties are very comparable. With a cartridge like the .45ACP, I doubt you'll see much difference in wear between the steel, Sc or Al frames.

If you are looking at a S&W 1911, take a look at the new (I think they are called FE) models. I believe they have done away with the grip safety FPB and gone to a light firing pin...like Springfield Armory.

While I have never had a problem with my 1911Sc since I bought in new in 2005, the external extractor used on the Performance Center 1911s are superior. As a matter of fact the PC 1911s are more than just a tuned production S&W 1911. Compared to the Springfield line, the PC 1911s are more like a Professional than a TRP

I'll have to take a look at those.
