Hi, new member here. Just wondering if there are any Canadians out there on this forum. Especially from Calgary, Alberta. Just wondering as I am completing my handgun training the end of May and have some questions on buying my first handgun or two. Would like to get some feedback from fellow Canadians. Thanks.

Hey, thanks for the links Cain R. Much appreciated.

Here's a couple of basic questions.

I live in the deep SW of the City (on the 22x). What are the one or two best gun clubs to join and at which to shoot?

Where are the best places to buy handguns in Calgary? I am looking at buying the CZ P01 and CZ 75 as my first handguns. Anybody sell these in the city?

Is it legal to buy and sell handguns privately?

Do we have any gun shows in Calgary ever like they hold in the USA?

Where else can you shoot besides at the gun clubs?

Sorry for all the questions. I have more but I thought I would start with these.

I've been to two ranges in Calgary, one indoor. The Fireing Line. It also has a retail store and you can "rent" different models to try on the range. An excellent way to try something out before you invest a large amount of money into it. They also have a few rifles you can try out that for the new gun owner it would be imposable to own. (certain types of military styled rifles and handguns are "grandfathered" and can only be owned by us old farts who jumped thru the hoops years ago to aquire special status on our P.A.L.s)
As far as buying things, Fireing Line, Wholesale Sports, S.I.R., not to mention Marstar. Check out Marstars web site, they have an interesting collection of Norinco products at the best prices anyware.

Hi there. This is weird I live in Bridlewood, just off 22x and Spruce Meadows. I rarely shoot in the city any more. I take a two hour drive north to Rocky Mountain House to use the 500 yard range there. There is a public range west of the city on the Sibald Flats road that is really very nice. You just missed the big Gun Show down at the Round Up Center, its held every Easter weekend on Friday and Saturday. Perfectly legal to privately buy and sell restricted privately, just jump through the hoops with the paper work. Before buying a handgun go to the Shooters Edge off Blackfoot and try out a few at their indoor pistol range they are VERY cliquey and pretty arrogant but a good selection of rental guns to try. As for buying a restricted, Edmonton prices are far less expensive. Try P&D Enterptises, good people and good prices. http://www.p-d-ent.com/ good website and good selection.

CanadianDad is my brother. He and his sons are coming to Texas next week, so he'll definitely get the opportunity to try out the guns he likes, and more! Thanks for all your help. It's good to see so many Canucks with guns. Maybe my other home isn't so far gone after all.

Hey Cain R, thanks for the note. I am in Somerset! I will have to give you a call sometime and chew your ear for a bit. When I complete my course and get my handgun(s) we will have to plink a few.

Yes, Tx1911fan is my brother. Proud to say his collection is up to 9 handguns now. Gotta love those Texas handgun laws! I am looking forward to my trip down there to visit and get some range time. He just got a new SA XD 3" today and it should be fun to try it out.
