Any cast bullet shooters here

I buy it in two 10lb rolls. From Amazon. Cheapest delivered price. ~$23.00 a roll.

Was that a typo and you meant to say 1lb rolls and not 10lb? Because if there's somewhere on Amazon that's selling 95/5 solder for $23.00/10lbs I might just break my no Amazon rule, lol.

I also plan to use 95/5 solder for any tin needs because I can get it from my work for around $16/lb after tax. I have 5 full lb rolls waiting in the wings. I'm going to throw my first casts this coming weekend and if I need some I'll drop some in.

Yeah, you’re right! It was late!
$16/lb is a great price! W/o free shipping and internet tax, handling is a killer!

phew, I thought I was hosing myself, haha.

I actually looked back at my receipt and it's more like $18.25/lb after the tax. Which isn't terrible. If I add about 3.5oz to a 20lb pot it only ads $4.00 to those 20lbs. The total cost per grain of lead is seemingly infinitesimal.

I was trying to evaluate if the foundry type pieces was a better way to reach the end goal. Most likely has more to do with where you start than anything

What do you mean by "foundry type pieces"? An ingot?

Or something purchased from a foundry without the "unknown" properties of pewter?

I purchased a box of that. It was certainly "pieces". Everything from chunks of type, to flakes of metal.

Open the box outdoors, and wear a dust mask. I believe a bunch of it is literally floor sweepings.

You figure per box you get about 4 lbs. of tin ($80/$20 per lb.) and about 8 1/2 lbs. of antimony (approx. $114/ $13.40 per lb.). All prices were figured from Rotometals stock. :)

Way back when I worked at my towns street department, part of my tasks were in our towns cemetery.

I found a 3gal bucket of the little letters and numbers that were used to make temporary grave markers before we could get a permanent stone in place.

They looked a lot like the pieces in your 1st picture; copperish color, about the same size.

I asked all the relevant people; my boss, mayor, office folks, if they were still used and they told me I could have them (as well as all the lead water lines we dug up and replaced over the years.

Thinking back on it, those little pieces were probably very high tin.

Not really. It just looks like a lot.
IIRC, that was from 2 boxes.

That is a mini pie tin. :)

And odd lead pieces.

That's about what my purchase looked like. I separated out the slivers of brass/copper, and sieved out the dust.
I don't remember exactly, but there was only an ounce or two of the brass/copper slivers. The dust I just pitched, but it was only a couple ounces also.

I'm too lazy to walk down to the barn to see the total weight of the results, but I did feel it was a good deal. I had a couple hours in cleaning it.

I suppose it could be rendered down to clean it instead. It could be poured into 1 pound (or smaller) ingots, but I wanted to keep it in original form. I may want to sell a small amount in the future, it's easier in original form.

I have given it thought of putting one more order in, just as backup.
Ingots varied from about .6 lb. to 1.4 lb.
One of several stacks.
