Any CZ 527 in 223 Owners?

Hi all, wondering if there are any CZ 527 owners that have one of these in 223. If you do, which model? Specifically, I'm looking at the Varmint with the 1:9 twist, as well as the very nice looking Lux and Full Stock version that happen to have the 1:12 twist. The mission is 99% target/range shooting, out to 300 meters, and probably not much more than that.

If you have any of these, how is accuracy with different bullet weights? Any other comments or thoughts?

I have a CZ 527 American. It's scary accurate, even with some of the cheapest ammo, and 300 yards with a rifle like this should be no problem.

I had a 527 LUX. It was stolen. Nonetheless, it was a great prairie dog rifle, so long as I did my part. It really liked the 55 Vmax bullet and H4895 powder. One of the selling points for me was the smaller diameter, steeper angled, grip area of the stock which made it shoulder really nicely, and a whole lot easier to carry than those with the drop grip with big old fat palm swells.

While it has a "soda straw" barrel, it didn't seem to be affected by heat. The rounds all just seemed to go into the same point. I liked the rifle, but rarely used the set trigger feature. It was really slick at first, but the regular, non-set, trigger was just fine for my tastes.

I am presently looking for another. LOL. Still have a few magazines which are looking for a home. Nonetheless, I am torn between another 527 and a 550 in 243 Win, which can easily exceed 4000 fps with a 55 grain slug. I only wish CZ made a faster twist heavy barreled varminter in 243 cal. We'll see what the coming year brings.

I have a 527 American.

It will put 5 shots in a dime size group with 55 grain V-Max handloads.
I killed a fly that landed on my 100 yard target with it once!!

It's easily the most accurate lightweight rifle I have ever owned.

I had one but got rid of it because I wanted a Remington 700 to build on. I second what others above said. Excellent little rifle, very accurate and well made. Good youth centerfire option as well.

Thanks for the opinions. I was really wondering about how the 50-55 grain bullets flew, since the American and Lux models have the 1:12, and the Varmint has the 1:9 twists.

FWIW, I have the 550 in 243 and 308. It is irritatingly accurate in both. For the 243, I have had some success with RE19 and 100 grain SP bullets, and 4350 and 87 grain "varmint" bullets. The 308 seems to like 168 grain bullets and 4064 (more or less copied a common "Camp Perry" load.

I got the varmint model in 223 with the laminate stock for Christmas. Cabelas had them on the clearance rack and I got the last one. Wish I had more info but haven't shot it yet. Hoping to site her in tomorrow if the weather holds. This is my first varmint style rifle and will have to use factory fodder until I can work up some loads.

Local Guns store has a used one. I looked at it, but the place was very crowded, and I was not there to look at rifles, so I did not scrutinize it with a fine tooth comb. The previous owner kind of screwed the pooch with the scope he has on it, but the wood was very pretty and looked to be in fine shape. once the page opens, if you click on the picture it will supesize.

The bottom link is to the Guns page of the business. After looking at the rifle. I later started thinking about it, and a buddy sent an email off to CZ asking if the rifle would chamber and handle 5.56 ammo. The reply he got was from J.Adam Swarts

[email protected] and he stated "Yes, 5.56 ammo can be used in all of our rifles chambered in .223". Very tempting to look at it again, but I have made too many purchases of late.

I have the Varmint model with walnut stock. After I had it bedded, it settled down and hadbecome a tack driver. It really likes Nosler 69gr Custom Comp bullets and AA-2460.

I have an FS with the 1:12 barrel and I've only fired 55-grain bullets out of it, but it shoots those outstandingly well. FWIW, I love shooting it, perhaps better than any of the 40 or so guns I've owned.

I have the 527 in 223 with the 1:9. It will shoot the cheap 55 grain stuff just fine, but prefers my reloads of the 62 or 75 grain better. Awesome gun. The set trigger is really nice.

taggetshooter 22: I shoot a CZ 527 VARMINT 223, with a kevlor stock. I have had this rifle for several years and it groups 1in or under whit any thing I have tried. I use 50 gr & 55gr V-MAX bullets and they group less than an inch. But if I use 52gr A-MAX`S the rifle will shoot 1/2 in or less all day long. I use this rifle for most every thing it is great for shooting groups at the range, It is a PD shooters dream come true, I even use it to hunt Coyotes with it. Shot PD`s and COYOTES out passed 300yds no problem at all with a shooting stick or bipods. I can`t say enough good things about my rifle but after all it is a CZ.

Wow, thanks for all the great info. I know I'm making a good choice with the 527; all my other CZ's are fantastic. Unfortunately, I still don't know which one to get. Just when I decide on the Varmint, I see that pic of the FS.... Grrrr....

As much as I love the CZ FS guns, with your stated mission of 99% target range shooting, as you probably know, you may be better off with an American or Varmint because their straighter stock is for most people a bit better suited for use with a scope than the hog back style of the FS and Lux. IME the FS and Lux are okay with a scope, but for extensive bench shooting, the other styles are probably better. If it matters to you to save a few bucks, I've seen some excellent bargains on lightly-used Americans lately on GB. One may still be there with a pretty decent scope (one of the better Bushnells or a Nikon Buckmasters, can't recall which) for something in the low-mid 500s. The 527 is a value at list price, IMO, and a $200 scope on a $650 street price (when new) gun, all for ~$525 is a great deal.

Wow, that is a really nice collection. Mine is more scattered, but one big reason for buying the 527 is to complete the line. Then I will have a 452, 527, and 550, plus a 75, but the styles will be scattered somewhat, and no FS models at all.

True. Conventional thinking is that the full stock (on any gun) can contribute to slightly wandering point of impact due to changes in the wood over time and humidity changes, but many CZ owners who also own other versions report their full stock guns to shoot as accurately -- and more accurately in some cases (rimfires, in particular) -- as their half stocked versions.

This isn't the one I was recalling above (different scope and perhaps not as near like new gun), but an example of what was on offer on GB recently. Not sure if the seller still has this one, or what, but it was listed and relisted several times without a buyer.
