Can any of you give me a comparison of these two? The local dealer has the Remington SPS in stock, but I had my eye on the CZ -527. The Rem has 1:12 twist, same as the CZ unless I go for more money and get the CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar, which has a floated barrel and 1:9 twist. Whaddya think?

I have a 527 and it is a joy.
Very light weight and easy to carry.
It shoots under 3/4 MOA all day with Hornady V-Max or Nosler Ballistic-Tip 55 grain handloads.
The set trigger is simply the best out there on a factory rifle.
I wasn't real wild about the magazines sticking out, but got used to it. Actually quite handy when the coyotes are running fast & furious!

For a walk around lightweight rifle I would give the CZ 527 American a try. Have a few of the CZ rimfire rifles - very nice and accurate. The CZ 527 set trigger I felt was quite good. I just wish it did not have the mag sticking way out!
For a heavy barrel varminter I have one of the SPS Varmints and it is one of the most accurate rifles I have fired. The 20" barrel SPS Tactical would have the 1 in 9" twist in a lighter package.

That depends on if you want a 10 pound, four foot long rifle, or a 7 pound, 3.3 foot rifle when you get done scoping & slinging it.
I much prefer the lighter handier CZ-527 American.

I have a CZ 527 .223 Cal. Varmint Kevlar Rifle. As with the CZ 453 rimfire rifle, which I also own, it has adjustable set and standard triggers. It‘s very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. I bought the CZ-452 Varmint 17HMR and changed the trigger spring to 1.3#. Very sweet little target rifle and the reason I am looking hard at the CZ-527. I a Mini 14, more than 20 years old, and I am looking for something very accurate to target shoot at 100-300 yards without spending an arm and a leg to purchase ammo. I agree that a flush mount magazine would be nice. Are they also available for the CZ-452?
Methinks I will spend the extra money and go with the CZ-527 Varmint in kevlar. I find I can't shoot with a bipod nearly as well as with a front tripod rest. Don't know why

I'd get the Remington 700 because off the better aftermarket support, and because it's American made.
Although shown with a Harris Bipod, I prefer a bag when shooting off the bench.
I believe that Calhoon's single shot flush followers are only available for centerfire rifles.
Personally, I dont think you could go wrong with the CZ or Remington. Both have very good reputations.

I have used the 52 grain Sierra in my 1 in 9" twist .223s with very good results. Have never used anything lighter. The 69 Sierras shoot very well in the 1 in 9" .223s I have.
I LOVE my 527 Varmint. It would take a lot of money to get that rifle away from me. With good loads its a .5-.75 MOA rifle. I'm not sure if the Remington would be more or less accurate, I doubt most of us would really notice a difference. The trigger on the 527 is amazing. Better than anything I have felt out of the box on a Remington. Thats not to say the Remington triggers are that bad, just that the 527 with the set trigger and adjustable unset trigger makes it really fun to shoot, far more fun than a lot of other factory rifles I have or have used.

I wouldn't trade my SPS Tactical for any of the other rifles mentioned in this thread!!! It is a highly accurate tac-driver!!!
