BESIDES Pekin Gun and Sporting goods? They have a great selection, but I really can't stand the personnel working there(think French waiters, and in PeKKKin of all places!).

I'm in the Peoria area, willing to drive a good hour any direction from here. Thanks!

Hmmmm. . . . well, Galesburg is about an hour west of you on 74, and it has Simpsons, Limited on Seminary St. It's also right across the street from the Amtrak station. They specialize in antiques (and they've always got something pretty neat) but they have the new stuff too, albeit mostly used. I had bad service there once, in college, but never again after that.

Other than that, all I know are Springfield places. How far are you from Bloomington? When I went to Darnall's, which is just off Rt. 9, there were signs for Pekin on 9. I forget how far it was, though. That might be a nice drive and the shop at Darnall's was nice, although not huge. Good service there, though.

Midwest Firearms in East Peoria is pretty sweet... not a HUGE selection, but I did get a DPMS stripped lower there for $109

I've never been there, but my relatives have and seem to like Perkin Gun. Gil Hubbard's shop is in Knoxville ~ 45min north on 74.

Wow, I have been to Pekin Gun and the owners didn't seem snotty to me.
Lots of stuff and they will bargain on prices.
Saw quite a few guns coming in and going out the few times I have been there.
You think Pekin is a bad town then come out to the lost world, Rushville makes Pekin look meek and mild.

Midwest Sales, I have run across these folks at some of the Gun Shows.
Owner is a super nice fellow.
He has had some health issues but keeps kicking along.
These guys are very big on Springfield XD pistols and Kimber handguns.
I am a rifleman and they didn't seem too keen on long guns IMHO.

It's a long drive, but come up to the Quad Cities, quite a few very decent shops in this area.

I've never had any issues at Pekin, either. They've always been nice to me on the three or four times I've been there.

Another vote for Darnall's - great people, I used to shoot there when I wad in town on business.

In Galesburg theres 3 gun shops. Simpsons Limited on South Seminary St. , D&M Gun Shop on Grand Ave. and Tomm's Gunn Shopp further out on South Seminary St.. If you plan on going to Tomm's call ahead to see if he is open. He has some varied hours of business. 1-309-342-0044 Simpsons has about a 1000 guns on there show floor. Another gun shop to look into is Gil Hebard's in Knoxville. His shop/store is about 10'X 12' but always has some used guns for sale. Hope this helps.
