I was browsing online and came across the Chiappa 1892 Wildlands rifle in .44. I like the traditional look of the rifle and would most likely using for calling bears, so I like the trim nature of the rifle. I do more hiking than shooting and try to set up in tight locations so the .44 is about perfect.

Does anyone have experience with the Chiappa 1892 series?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

I think there are three current manufacturers of 1892 reproductions. Lowest price is the Brazilian rifle made by Braztech or whatever they are called.

Miroku in Japan makes the Winchester branded rifle. Good quality but they’ve added some features to Browning’s design that many feel are unnecessary.

Chiappa also has a good reputation for quality and I think their rifles are pretty true to the original design.

The 1892 has a compact but very strong receiver. It should handle .44 Magnum pressures just fine.

That's really closer to a short-barreled version of what Winchester marketed as the model 53. They introduced the model 53 in the 1920s as a more modernized version of the model 92. A button mag was standard while a straight or pistol grip stock with shotgun butt plate was optional as was a takedown option. A 22-inch barrel was standard though. There were only about 25000 produced and it discontinued in the 1930s as sales of the model 92 overall lagged due to the depression and the more popular model 94.

Even Browning reproduced it back in the 1980s but with a longer barrel and of course minus what appears to be the combo rear sight/rail. In 44 mag it should make for a handy deer/brush country rifle.
