I saw a neat looking 4" SP101 in .22 today. I had never seen one. How do these shoot? Are they accurate?

Thanks,
Steve

I have a four-inch .22 LR SP-101, and it is a good shooter. It makes a great understudy for my .357 Magnum SP-101's. My only gripes are the following:

1) Typical SP-101 sharp trigger that needed to be dehorned.

2) Adjustable sights for windage only.

3) Lawyer-approved trigger. This cleaned up with a bit of polishing and proper lubrication.

These are good revolvers. In fact, I bought one for my father last year as a Christmas present. He really likes his sample.

I'll mirror farscott's comments with the exception of the sharp trigger. I've replaced springs with the Wolffe units and had some initial problems with the trigger returning, but had solid ignition. Revolver seems reasonably accurate and is smoothing out as it's shot more.

Reason I originally bought the gun was that I was looking for a trail gun that was built like a tank, but didn't weight like one. Considered the Smith line but couldn't find anything similar in a 4" that weighed in the area of the SP. Happy with mine, but have to admit the windage only sights are really a chintzy approach.

Hate the serrated triggers. The newer ones may be smooth. I have trouble getting accuracy and it isn't because of the barrel but that the factory grips are too small. My brother picked up Hogue wood grips for me but they're terrible (finger grooves) and I prefer the older style Jordan or target grips (like found on the old Pythons or S&W Target grips).

Mine is great...came with a smooth trigger.
A lighter Wolff spring made the trigger pull very good.
My only complaint...rear sight adjustable for windage only and the front sight is way to thick for my tastes.

SP-101 Trigger

I should clarify my comments about the SP-101 trigger. The trigger face is smooth, not serrated. My comments about "sharp" refer to the edges of the trigger. These sharp edges tend to abrade my finger during double-action work. Ever since Jack Weigand worked over my .357 Magnum SP-101's, I have gotten used to breaking these edges on the trigger.
