Will be visiting the Smokey Mountains this weekend. Plan to stay up in the hills and out of the tourist stuff unless there is a good reason to enter (like a good gun store). Any recommendations?

Wynn's Sporting Goods.
On the main road through Sevierville (sp?) heading up to Pigeon Forge, is the only one that I know of.
I like to stop in there and look, but their prices are high for this part of the country.
Good selection of used guns though.

There are several here in Knoxville. GunCraft, Randy's, Craig's, Guns & More, Wynn's. Tam and Marko will be along shortly to give their two cents. ;)

There's some sort of shop along the strip there that sells S&W stuff. Oddly enough I don't remember anything else being sold there. It was was there in 2000 at least. Not that I can really recommend S&W merchandise.
When in that area, I'd waste most of my time at Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

I know you're looking for guns, but if you like knives, check out Smoky Mountain Knifeworks. It's in Sevierville.

El T,

Smoky Mountain Knifeworks is about a 30 minute drive northeast of K-town proper on I-40.

Sword selection is mostly of the United Cutlery type (ie: 440C Flea Market Crap), but the knife selection is phenominal.

PS:

Randy's: Go out North Broadway through Fountain City. We're a half mile past the duck pond on the left, heading up Black Oak ridge. Reloading supplies, a pretty generalized selection of handguns and long guns, very good ammo selection, especially in unusual or obsolescent calibers, CCW holsters, targets, etc.

Craig's: Head south on Chapman Hwy. Way south. Craig's is on the right, just past the driving range. Mostly LE-type guns, but gets a pretty steady flow of older stuff from LE confiscation tradeins or auctions. Lots of duty gear. Ammo selection heavily weighted towards LE/Military calibers, but has absolutely fantastic prices, especially on Remington stuff (they're a distributor). Also, you get to see Marko's smiling face. :)

Guncraft: Out off Lovell Road. Only indoor range in town. Kinda struggling right now, and is actually up for sale.

Guns & More: Off Kingston Pike on Bearden Hill, more or less right across from Calhoun's. New shop, co-located with Predator Custom.

El T,

Flea Market would not be so bad depending on balance.

I've found that "balance" is usually less of a design criteria than looks with SLO's (Sword-Like Objects). They're more worried about how it'll "balance" on the wall hooks it's hung from.

Well if you down for seeing alot of scenic east TN head down to Benton's Shooter Supply in Benton, TN...really not a bad drive from Knoxville and only takes about 40 minutes rom Maryville mostly due the small towns you pass through on 411 South...have everything you need including WLP and WSP primers among there reloading stuff...Prices on firearms are good and reloading supplies are pretty decent with the exception of some of the primers going gor $40/1k but they told me they have no limit...one of the best gun stores i have been to..if they dont have it they probably dont make it...

It has been a while, but there was one gun shop inside Gatlinburg in one of the indoor mall type places. Been to Wynn's in Sevierville. It sort of a general sporting goods type place that includes guns and so forth. Bass Pro has a store at the Sevierville Exit off I-40. It is worth visiting if you like BP.

Craigs used to be (or is) the only Class III dealer in the area. Seems it mostly deals with LE stuff now.

Benton Shooters Supply located south of Knoxville along US 411 just north of Benton is good for new guns and a few used guns. Nice place actually and the prices have always been pretty fair on guns. They frequently have a very large inventory. You might pass this shop if you were heading south to the Ocoee or Hiwassee River areas which are not in the GSMNP.

There used to be a nice shop in Athens, but they closed. I suspect people got fed up with them as I did, but it was sort of a mini-Cabela's with lots of mounted trouphies and so forth.

GunCraft/Coal Creek Armory is okay. Prices were never that great. I have bought things there when Tamara worked there. As said, it is just off the Lovell Road exit in the west part of Knoxville just north of I-40. You almost have to know where it is and I would suggest you just look up the shop on the internet and do MapQuest for location.

There is a place in Cleveland TN that specializes in black rifles. Don't recall the name but they are along US 11 north of I-75 Exit 20 (Hwy 64 bypass) highway. It is on the left going norh. Been there, but I'm not heavily into Black Rifles. Prices were a tad above some of the other local places based on my couple of visits. But they had lots of very cool stuff there.
