I live in Indiana and am heading down to Gatlinburg and Nashville, Tennessee for Spring Break in March. Just the 2 boys & me as the wife has to work. We want to stop at some gun shops and I'm looking for suggestions. I have a C&R and collect old hunting rifles, mostly .22s and shotguns, no military stuff. My oldest collects knives and wants to stop at a large knife ship near Gatlinburg. I'm looking for suggestions for gun shops that have a good selection of used & older sporting guns. Someone told me that there are a couple of good shops around Franklin and Murfreesboro.

Also wanted to find out how receptive shops in Tennessee are to a C&R. I travel often and find that Florida, Texas and Arizona all know what a C&R is and gladly accept them. Take a C&R into a shop in the Midwest and most are clueless. Any good shop suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

If you come to the Nashville area you can look in at Goodlettsville Gun Shop. Drive a bit further to Hendersonville to Guns N' Leather. They have a nice indoor range. There is another on Rivergate Pky. Just can't think of the name. All three of these are in close enough to visit in a single run.

Have fun.

I'm not sure what the C& R had to do with buying a gun on site. It requires no sort of license to buy a long gun out of state. The C& R is only relevant when ordering a C& R eligible firearm to be sent to you.

Smoky Mountain Knife Works? Great place to visit and shop, also plan on spending a few hours there as the place is big.

Guns and leather in Greenbrier tn, about 16 miles north of nashville, 2216 Hwy 41 S, Greenbrier, TN.. good store with lots to look at. Modern range downstairs, friendly staff and fair prices.

Sure miss G&L in Greenbrier. Bought my first handgun there. Lived in the apts across the street and spent many hours shooting there.
Tell em Hoss says Hey!

G&L in Greenbriar, and Franklin Gun Shop in Franklin. Biggest selection in the area.

Nashville Sporting Arms (Under New Management) is a small gun shop owned by a friend of mine. They sell a ton of knives (quality stuff like Benchmade), reloading supplies, and handguns. They always have a couple of C&R guns to. (www.NSArms.com)

A really cool place to visit is The Franklin Gun Shop (http://www.franklingunshop.com/) they have more than 5000 guns at decent prices (their ammo is to expensive) and hundreds of C&R guns. They even have a few NFA guns and a fair number of supressors.

Fallout Mike, If I purchase a C&R eligible rifle and the FFL accepts my C&R the gun is shipped directly to my home. If the FFL won't accept my C&R (and many won't) and I still want the rifle, it must be shipped to an FFL in Indiana for the transfer Since most Indiana FFL transfer fees are $25+ the price I'm paying for my hobby goes up accordingly.

I've never purchased a long gun in Tennessee so I need to read up on the laws before I go. My purpose in asking about the acceptance level of the C&R is to determine how open local FFLs are to accepting it. Many won't accept a C&R for a variety of reasons. This is unfortunate, as I buy almost exclusively from shops who will accept. Example: On my last vacation I purchased 5 guns from a great shop in Florida. Took my C&R, no problem. Saved me $$$ in transfer and shipping fees.

By this post, I will identify TN shops that tend to carry older long guns and give these guys a call. If they don't take a C&R I probably won't even stop.

I was under the impression that in most states you could buy a long gun with no license or transfer fee. Its only handguns that require such. I know that's the case in several states from personal experience.

+1 on Franklin Gun Shop. You all can do all the business you want at Dennis's junk store (G&L). I have purchased multiple guns at Franklin Gun Shop and very happy with them. Franklin also has a great gunsmith, Tom over at Lock Stock & Barrel.

SMKW sells a lot of production knives ranging from complete junk to excellent. The National Knife Museum is attached to it and is a must see for anyone interested in knives.

The Acorn Shop in Gatlinburg used to carry Randalls and custom knives as well as high end production pieces. Less so these days.

Earth Traverse Outfitters in Knoxville sells hand made and production knives oriented towards bushcraft.

Gun shops between Gatlinburg and Nashville tend to focus on new firearms. These included the aforementioned Coal Creek Armory and Predator Custom Shop in Knoxville, Frontier Firearms just west of Knoxville.

dont forget to check the pawn shops, darn near every pawn shop in tennessee sells guns of all types. and they almost always have knives too....

ps when ya go past exit 311 honk il wave back LOL

Look at the auction tracker sites for auctions along your route. An entire pawn shop is being auctioned Sat. Near Pigeon Forge.
