Posting this in general, move to accessories if that is more appropriate.

I have a gun cabinet that seems to have been intended for field shotguns, it is very shallow and with the very small cabinet in the bottom I am outgrowing it with only 3 guns (2 long, one pistol) and some archery stuff. I got it because I had acquired a second gun and decided a cabinet was needed instead of a hard case under my bed.

So now I am looking for a gun cabinet or safe. I will start by saying security isn't a super huge concern because the storage is in my room and we have no kids at this house. Also because the storage is upstairs the unit can't weigh a ton to move.

What I am looking for
-At least 4 long-gun slots
-Sizeable shelving units
-Deep enough to store a scoped shotgun with a pistol grip
-Low-cost

I would say if the shelving units have enough room to store 2 cases of shotgun ammo that works. The only big items I have to store are my Hoppe's cleaning kit (long plastic case) and my pistol case which is also kind of large. I rarely ever have so much ammo stockpiled it takes up more space than 1 case of shotgun ammo would.

What's low cost??
If it's anything under a grand go to a big box store and get a Chinese 12 gauge gun safe because at that price that's all your going to find.

Low cost is like Harbor Freight pricing. Being as this will be moving my guns into a more "secure" container I might be able to squeeze a few bucks out of my parents to help offset the cost but really under $300 would be ideal.

Under $300...Emm...Save some more and buy better.
Is there really such a thing as a minimum 12 gauge bodied gun safe for under $300 that is new??

do a search on your local craigs list, you should be able to find a good deal there but be prepared to act fast if you see one you like, the good price ones don't last long.

I bought off craiglist for around $250. It seems to be large enough for what you're wanting. Works well for my purposes, but...two caveats:
Anyone with a small prybar and five minutes could bend the sheet metal.
A LOT of people (including me) who get one 'new' in box, but from a questionable source, find out that the keys are missing! I think the guy bought with a bunch of other stuff on a pallette at an auction. This seems to be pretty common. Mine had a serial number sticker on the outside that allowed me to order new keys from the factory. $10ish.
Oh yeah! And even if you buy from a retailer, reviews say that most of them are dented somewhere.
That being said, I couldn't live without mine. It keeps any kids (and visitors) out of anything I want kept private. I don't need it to be pretty.

SEARCH HERE
we have quite a few Locksmiths, at least two who specialize in safes and vaults...
most gun safes are about the same as school locker, with a fancy paint job and some wall board thrown in for 'fire protection'

A few are MUCH better, but they often are not the most expensive, those poorly constructed metal boxes have BOTH paint and NAME licensing cost money, which is not spent on thicker walls or better materials, not quality protection.

Amsec, graffunder (I know I'm spelling it wrong) are two that come to the top of my head. they are more on the construction than on the paint.

BROWNING No!

No matter what...don't get a Browning, unless you want sheet rock for fire proofing and don't mind sagging interior carpet! A waste of money in any event.
