Greetings from Nashville. My first post, been hanging out around here a lot lately. This looks like the perfect forum for my question.

Anyone here have any indoor range experience as owner, manager, or employee? There is a good market in my area for a well appointed indoor range. There is a nice one in Middle Tennessee but it's 35 miles from Nashville. I've also had the opportunity to shoot at a good one in Norcross, Georgia and had some discussions with the people there. I have purchased the NRA range guide manual and started the research but an exchange with the experienced would be invaluable.

Thanks in advance.

BTW - THR, great place!

Not very clear on your wants.
Are you putting together a business plan with the intention of opening an indoor pistol range?
Commercial or private club?
Sole owner or partnership?
Do you need financing or do you have a wheelbarrow full of money?
Who is your "target" market?

Commercial operation with annual and daily memberships, probably a limited liability corporation, financing needed. Right now I'm just wanting to chat with people with experience to bounce some ideas around with. Find out what works and doesn't work. What to watch out for, etc. This is very early planning.

Target market is sport shooting with an eye for a nice family environment , women shooters, and CCW classes. I've also been talking with local law enforcement as an alternate training range area. Where they currently go is outdoor.

Spend some time speaking with the "agency" who will have "environmental" input to your building permit. Pay particular attention to their lead handling requirements both in exhaust air and solid waste.

You may also want to make contact with a commercial reloader in the area if any and a lead recycler.

I work for Point Blank Range in Johnson City TN, you can send some ?'s my way if you want. Is Gun City USA still open in Nash Vegas?

Gun City is still here but it's sort of the epitome of what I don't want a range to be. It's not in a really great part of town and it's old and dark. I don't have personally anything against them, it's just not where I want to hang out or would want my daughters to go. On Target in Murfreesboro is an ideal environment. Bright, new, family friendly, lounge, good pro shop, classroom, instructors on staff, etc.

Thanks for the offer to ask questions. I'll do those by PM. I have some customers in North Carolina, might stop in and see you next time I travel over that way.

probably a limited liability corporation

There is no such thing. LLC is a limited liability company.

Opening any kind of business really has less to do with what the business is then how to do it.

Where will I get money, how much a month will expenses be, how much revenue will I be making a month, when will I break even, what permits do I need, how many employees will I need, how much inventory will I need, etc etc.
