Buddy gave me a knife to take home and sharpen today. It's a standard hunting knife, obviously worse for the wear (the handles, for one, are wrapped in what appears to be some sort of glued-on aluminum foil) and the only markings anywhere on the thing are

on the left-side base of the blade, which is 3 3/4" long per my tape measure.
Just curious as to what the story is on these things. Looks like it was a handy little knife at one time.
