Any issue with using a flip up rear BUIS as main sight?

Am getting my first AR15 (should arrive next week). I got a flattop model which came with a standard front sight post and no rear sight. Got this version because I MAY want optics in the future....soonest it would happen would be in spring time although it may never happen.

So since i need a rear sight I bought a flip up one....i figured if i get optics i'll be fine cause i'll just leave it down and it'll serve it's pupose as a BUIS. If i don't get optics though will it serve me as well as just the standard rear nonflip sights? I ordered a MidWest Industries ERS.

I'm planning on doing the same thing except using the Troy Folding Battle Sight.

Sometime soon I'll put Aimpoints on all of them but I'd rather get another upper at this point.

my S&W M&P15 has the Troy rear BUIS and is one of the most accurate ARs I've ever used. It'll definitely be fine if you don't have optics and use the flip up sights.

I used a Matech flip up as my only sight for about 6 months before I finally decided on an Eotech for my Colt.

The only real disadvantage is the added complexity and fragility. It's one more thing to fail. If you're making an iron-sighted rifle, get an A1 upper. However, if you're wanting to just use iron sights until you figure out what optic you're going to use, there's nothing wrong with that.

Cool....although i'm beginning to think my decision to "buy a base model now and then slowly over the next year or so add on stuff i'd want" was foolhardy.

I've got the fever and will be buying an EOTech or Aimpoint with my next paycheck and a DD Omega forearm a paycheck after that. Bought a used LaRue QD EoTech mount off a forum this morning just because it seemed like such a good deal (if i decide on aimpoint i can sell the LaRue for the same price i bought it).

I could have saved money by just getting one that already had the stuff on it.....although i guess this way i'm getting the specific components i want.

Not sure why i didn't see this coming...you'd think my experience with handguns (which resulted in the same fever) would have taught me something
