Any issues with the Remington 870?

You can't go wrong with an 870. Have 2 Wingmasters 12 Ga., 20 Ga Express and a 12 Ga Super Mag. The only thing wrong with them is that they hit everything that I shoot at.

CLP will not remove the bluing on a firearm. If an 870 Express has rusted it could be that it was wiped with an oily rag instead of being saturated with oil till the finish will soak up no more and then had the excess wiped off.CLP is a very good protectant on the Expresses bead blasted, blued finish when applied in such a fashion,as is Ballistol.

If I had an express, I'd just use my sand blaster on it and paint it with crinkle black or maybe a camo pattern. Would hold up better.

I use Corrosion X gun oil on my guns. I believe in this stuff. I don't know that it's good enough to keep rust off an express, that's asking a lot, but it sure as heck stays on the gun well after just a sparing amount is wiped on. I buy it locally at my NAPA dealer who carries the gun oil as well as other formulations.

If I lived in west Texas or Aridzona, I probably wouldn't think an express was that rust prone. Typically, though, it's 70 percent humidity or more down here and I live 150 yards from a salt water bay system. The fishin's great, but the environment is corrosive. I hunt waterfowl in salt marshes and often take boat rides with the shotgun on the bay. That's not a great place to have a typical express. I never had a problem like that with my old Wingmaster, though, held up just as well as any other shotgun I've ever owned far as rust goes. If you hunt salt marshes, a camo finish is GREAT! It is very resistant to corrosion. You might not like the aesthetics of camo, but it's duck hunter fashionable as well as rugged to the max. The salt marsh and bays around here are not kind to fine woods and blued steel. I'm sure, though I haven't looked, that Remington offers camo models. About everyone does anymore. If you live in Nebraska or Aridzona, this probably doesn't apply. I can't think of an area worse on a shotgun finish than the gulf coast, though, and marsh hunting is pretty rough stuff.
