Just a wild idea, i like the rear peeps on a sks and was thinking why not go all out and just build a m1 garand looking sks, the albanian bolts already look similar and the sks mag could be hidden quite easily too. so any suggestions other than the sarcastic "commie gun in an american body, sounds like polishing a turd" .

Kind of sounds like you just want affirmation of your idea, and not discussion where someone could disagree with you.

Interesting idea -- I've never seen such a conversion.

The problem is that the gas system on the CKC is on top, and in the Garand it's on the bottom.

I think they're just too different to pull off a convincing kit. I think it really boils down to a why bother? You could spend several hundred bucks on a complex cosmetic kit to somewhat visually disguise (and I remain unconvinced how effectively) your $3-400 SKS as an M1. Or you could just buy an M1 from the CMP for $5-600. Certainly though disguised as an M1, you won't be feeding your SKS enbloc clips (which is honestly half the fun).

So yeah, it could probably be done, but it's going to look funny if not flat out wrong (you're neve going to get it to disguise perfectly) and it'll probably won't save you much over just buying a Garand to start with (except ammo costs of course).

I'm afraid I can't help you, but I would like to know where I can file for compensation after my brain exploded when I read the thread title.

I think a kit to bring the "gas tube" to the end of the barrel, along with a longer stock and a set of techsights would bring the sks a much more American look without turning it into some weird M1 wannabe.

Garand's choice of putting the gas piston under the barrel is one I've never really understood. It forced him to design the op-rod that has a 90 reach around to it and results in the bore axis being higher than would be required if the gas port and piston were on top, like the SKS, AK, FAL, AR-15, and many others.

I really wish that someone would just make an SKS stock that's not tacti-cool, but has a better drop at the comb and LOP. I love the wood stock, the geometry is just not made for a large American.

Just install an adjustable buttplate on the gun. I am 6 ft 250 lbs and I have no problem shooting an SKS, or any other milsurp either. That is what is so nice about milsurps, they are all different. If you want the gun to feel the same, buy a Remsavbrochester.....chris3
