Any old school .218 Bee shooter's left out there?

Take a break from the milsurp scene or other big boomers,get those old classic guns out of the closet and give them some exercise. I have the pleasure to own and shoot a Win mod 65 and a mod 43 in the .218 bee caliber, real easy to reload for and you must cuz of the cost of factory rounds.
Does anyone else shoot this round or am I a loner, gotta keep these old guns going, especially when we inherit them from dad or grandad. My dad had these on the farm growing up in the 40's, showed me his target tree in the pasture . Of course all that is gone now and so is he .
I do enjoy the milsurps, made a nice collection after I got back from Iraq in 04, amongst my other boomer toys. Like father like son, I reload and enjoy the .218 like he did.
 
wish i could find a bolt 218... been looking for one for awhile now and can't find one. i suppose i'll just break down and build it one of these days...
 
Close... but not quite.

I am quite the fan of the 219 Donaldson Wasp though.....

Glad to hear you're reloading. We keep the ammo in stock for a customer, and :eek:

I've suggested he reload, and he just shrugs and says money isn't that big of a concern, but at $65/box I'd think it would be.

Really fun cartridge, though!
 
It's my sad duty to report to you that Bee fans are virtualy extinct. I was born in the forties and raised in the fifties. Not a common round, even then, but a couple of Dad's cronies oened them. It wasn't Global Warming that took them to the brink of extinction, It was the introduction of the Remington 722 in .222. They were inexpensive and shot very well. Being easy to scope didn't hurt either. It's too bad to see the demise of such a useful, classic round to go the way of the .41 Swiss........Enjoy Yours. Essex
 
I believe the Bee came around in the early 30's and yes , it was out-paced soon after by other calibers on the scene. The Win mod 65 was built on leftover 1892 actions, Winchester tried to keep the interest in the Bee by making the mod 43, a slim bolt rifle to appeal to more shooters in the varmint scene. For those looking for a Bee gun, buy it when you find it, I have a short list also to look for. Thanks for those responding
 
shuvelrider, i'm from Muskegon also. welcome. i assume your tag refers to the HD. 66-84 that's a neat little round that was well ahead of it's time. i'm playing with a 270 right now. got my mini-30 about where i want it.
 
Yep, a 68 electraglide, use the kicker till you cant kick no more, then come back and kick again.
Brass is still fairly cheap for the bee and there is a good selection of bullet out there, all sighted in and want to catch the end of crow season .
