Any opinions on lasers for a 6.8AR? Worthwhile or not? Preferred brand or mounting?

I recently picked up a sweet! Barrett REC7 in 6.8 and attached a Leupold VXR Patrol scope (with the firedot SPR...Mikey likey!)

I'm considering a green laser mounted on the front, but I'm not sure if:
a) it's worth it given the scope has an adjustable red dot
b) if they are durable
c) if there is a specific brand that stands out as better than others.

I would love the input from the folks here to help me make my decision. The only additional projects I have in mind for this rifle is an AAC suppressor and possibly a bipod.

There is no point. At the ranges a visible laser is useful you can get the same hits on target just indexing off your front sight or using the red dot.

I don't have a front sight, but obviously can use the sight just fine. I was thinking about green because the dot is red, but of course, if it was zeroed, they'd overlap.

You have a great scope. Why the need for a laser?

I have some experience with lasers. Mostly with IR ones, in which case there really isn't a substitute, plus they do more than just aim. My wife has the Crimson Trace grips on her revolver, and those are pretty nice for what they do. But a visible laser on a rifle has such limited use that they really aren't worth it --in my opinion. At close range, a rifle with a reflex sight is faster plus you can point shoot if it is really close, and at long range the laser is fixed line of sight --not too useful then.

At night, the IR laser can discreetly put you on a point target at 300m, but a visible one gives away your position. Again, the tradeoff isn't worth it. The IR laser would ALMOST be useless if it weren't for the fact you can identify targets at great distance to others without them knowing, without firing a shot. They also are useful for showing air cover where the bad guy is. But once everyone gets NODs, they will be useless again.

If you find yourself in a situation where the visible laser is useful, tracers might be moreso. And that is pretty slim too.

What I would say is a go is a good light. A nice bright Surefire light. But really only if you intend on using it for HD. I keep an M4 around for that, and I like the plain old shock mounted weapon lights and a KAC broomhandle grip.

If a laser works for YOU, and if you already have a light, then go for it. You won't be giving your position away if they fire simultaneously. In which case green won't wash out as easy as the red will in the light. Some people like it, but honestly, if you have to ask on here if you need it then you probably don't.
